Formula E Jeddah Double-Header: Everything You Need To Know About The Upcoming Races
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is set to make its debut at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit for Rounds 3 and 4. This event marks the season's only night races, introducing a new mid-race Pit Boost feature. This feature offers a 10% energy increase through a 30-second, 600kW ultra-fast boost in the pitlane, bringing back mandatory pit stops after nearly seven years.
Rounds 3 and 4 of the Jeddah E-Prix will take place on Friday, February 14, and Saturday, February 15. The races will start at 8:05 PM local time and will be broadcast live on Roku for US audiences at 12:05 AM ET. The championship has moved from Diriyah to a revised layout of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, known for hosting iconic races.
A Rookie Free Practice session is scheduled for Thursday, February 13. This session allows drivers who have never competed in the championship to showcase their skills. Notable rookies include Jamie Chadwick, Théo Pourchaire, Tatiana Calderón, and Daniil Kvyat. This practice aims to highlight global motorsport talent using the latest Formula E GEN3 Evo machines.
The introduction of Pit Boost adds an extra layer of strategy to the race. Drivers must make a mandatory stop during Friday’s race to gain an additional energy boost. This feature operates independently of Attack Mode rules, providing teams with two strategic elements to manage during the race.
The Jeddah Corniche Circuit features a new 1.86-mile layout designed specifically for Formula E racing. It includes 19 high-speed turns and four new chicanes to enhance racing challenges. These modifications were completed in just 30 days and offer an exciting test for teams as they navigate the anti-clockwise track along the Red Sea coastline.
Oliver Rowland, winner of Round 2, hopes to replicate his success from last month’s Mexico race. Championship leader António Félix da Costa aims to turn his runner-up finishes into a victory. The event promises thrilling performances as drivers adapt to new strategies and technologies.
Sustainability Initiatives
Sustainability remains central to Formula E events. The Jeddah E-Prix will use B100 biofuel-generated renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions by up to 60% compared to fossil diesel. Air freight emissions are also reduced by optimizing logistics and enhancing sea freight solutions.
The Better Futures Fund supports local initiatives addressing social inequalities and environmental issues. In Season 11, each race market receives a €25,000 donation from this fund. In Jeddah, the First Autism Centre benefits from this support with a dedicated sensory room for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
FIA Girls on Track Program
The FIA Girls on Track program will host up to 120 young women during race week in Jeddah. Activities include career talks, a Pit Lane Walk, gaming arena activations, and educational workshops led by inspirational women in motorsport.
This program focuses on STEM education and gender inclusivity in motorsport. Additionally, a panel discussion on women in motorsport will be co-hosted with Nissan Formula E Team at UBT (University of Business and Technology) on Wednesday, February 12.
Formula E continues its commitment to innovation and fan engagement with new technology introductions like Pit Boost and rookie practice sessions at Jeddah Corniche Circuit. These efforts reflect Formula E's dedication to creating inclusive opportunities while promoting sustainability within motorsports globally.
