Ford Mustang GT3 Celebrates Historic First Global Victory At Daytona's Rolex 24 Race
Ford Performance and Multimatic Motorsports celebrated a significant victory with the Mustang GT3 at the Rolex 24 At Daytona. The No. 65 car, driven by Dennis Olsen, Christopher Mies, and Frédéric Vervisch, emerged victorious in the GTD Pro class of this prestigious endurance race. This marked Ford's first global GT3 win and their 20th triumph at Daytona since 1966.
The Mustang GT3 showcased its prowess by securing a front-row start for the 63rd edition of this event. Mike Rockenfeller, returning for his second season, achieved the car's second-ever pole position globally with the No. 64 Ford Multimatic Motorsports Mustang GT3. Meanwhile, Vervisch qualified just behind in the No. 65 car.
Mark Rushbrook, Ford Performance's global director, expressed pride in the team's achievement: "This is a team win for everyone at Ford Motor Company, for our partners and for fans of Mustang." He highlighted that this victory made all the hard work worthwhile and marked a milestone for Ford.
The No. 64 Mustang GT3 also performed admirably, securing third place with drivers Seb Priaulx, Mike Rockenfeller, and Austin Cindric. This added to Ford's accolades at Daytona International Speedway. Pascal Zurlinden from Multimatic Engineering praised the team's dedication over two years to transform the iconic Mustang into a winner.
Christopher Mies shared his excitement about the win: "It’s unbelievable... coming back exactly one year later and winning the race." He credited their strategy and teamwork as key factors in their success.
Driver Reactions
Frédéric Vervisch described the final hour as nerve-racking but was thrilled with their victory: "It’s unbelievable that we won it!" Dennis Olsen expressed his joy in celebrating such a significant achievement: "We didn’t really think we would have it at the end... It paid off."
Mike Rockenfeller acknowledged their efforts despite not winning: "Congratulations to the No. 65 team... We did our part to help them out." Sebastian Priaulx echoed similar sentiments about teamwork and their podium finish.
Austin Cindric's Reflections
Austin Cindric found participating in this program special: "To be a part of this program... was really cool." He appreciated learning about the Mustang GT3 during night racing and viewed this experience as progress toward his dream of winning at Daytona.
Kevin Groot from Ford Performance emphasized teamwork over having the best car: "We did this through reliability and great teamwork." He expressed pride in both drivers and team members for achieving such a special win.
This victory adds another chapter to Ford's rich history at Daytona. Since its first win with MKII in 1966, Ford has now claimed 20 victories here. The last triumph came in 2018 when Ford GT secured a GTLM class win.
