Five Audi Models Recommended For Teen Drivers By IIHS And Consumer Reports In Updated List

Five Audi models, including the Q4 e-tron, A3, A6, Q3, and Q5, have been highlighted in an updated list by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and Consumer Reports (CR). This list aims to assist families in selecting safe vehicles for teens while considering budget constraints. The Audi Q4 e-tron stands out as the only electric vehicle (EV) among the top choices for midsize SUVs.

The selection process for these recommended vehicles involves various criteria. These include standard safety features, IIHS crash test scores, braking and handling performance, ease of use, and estimated starting prices from Kelly Blue Book. All chosen models have achieved "Good" ratings in five IIHS tests: moderate overlap front, side impact, driver-side small overlap front, roof strength, and head restraints.

Audi Models Recommended for Teen Drivers

Audi's selection of vehicles is equipped with standard stability control and other safety-enhancing features designed for newer drivers. The Audi Q4 e-tron is particularly notable as it is one of only three EVs out of 122 used vehicles to make the list. This highlights its commitment to safety and innovation in the electric vehicle segment.

Vehicles classified as Best Choices feature headlights rated good or acceptable by IIHS across all trims. They also come with standard automatic emergency braking (AEB) that performs well in IIHS track tests. Additionally, these models have average or better scores from CR for braking and handling performance.

The recommended vehicles are divided into categories based on price and type. For midsize SUVs under $20,000, the Audi Q4 e-tron (2022 or newer) is a Best Choice. In the Good Choices category starting at $10,000 or less are the Audi A3 (2015 or newer), Audi A6 (2016 or newer; post-January 2015 builds), Audi Q3 (2015 or newer), and Audi Q5 (2015 or newer; post-January 2015 builds).

These selections are part of an annual list produced jointly by CR and IIHS since 2020. It aims to guide families in prioritising vehicle safety while maintaining affordability. The criteria ensure that selected vehicles meet high standards for safety and usability.
