Honda HRC Progressive Triumphs At RedBud MX With Jett Lawrence And Jo Shimoda Victories
Jett Lawrence achieved his sixth consecutive 450 overall victory at the Honda RedBud National, overcoming a challenging start and a minor fall in the second moto. Meanwhile, Hunter Lawrence secured second place overall with consistent 2-3 finishes. Jo Shimoda dominated the 250 class with perfect 1-1 scores, marking his first overall win of the year and significantly boosting his championship points.
The Honda RedBud National was a spectacle both on and off the track during the Fourth of July weekend. Special guests from Japan and Spain attended, with Honda as the title sponsor for this popular event. The riders delivered impressive performances, sweeping all moto wins in a display of dominance.
Executives from Honda Racing Corporation in Japan, including Executive Director Yuzuru Ishikawa, were present at RedBud. Their attendance highlighted Honda's global support for the team and the AMA Pro Motocross Championship. The event also featured Toni Bou and Gabriel Marcelli, who showcased their skills in riding exhibitions.
In the first 450 moto, Hunter Lawrence took an early lead with Jett close behind in third. By lap two, Jett moved into second place and soon overtook Hunter to lead the race. They maintained their positions until the finish line. However, moto two was more challenging as both brothers had poor starts.
During moto two, Jett Lawrence faced an early setback but quickly recovered. Starting from 18th position after a tip-over, he charged forward to take the lead by lap 11. He finished over eight seconds ahead of his competitors. Hunter battled for third place against Chase Sexton, eventually securing it with a comfortable margin.
Jo Shimoda excelled in the 250 class by taking both holeshots aboard his CRF250RWE. In moto one, he regained the lead by lap ten and maintained it to win by over eight seconds. In moto two, despite losing a position early on, Shimoda reclaimed it by lap one’s end and led past halfway to secure victory.
Notable Performances and Results
The event also included a round of the SMX Next Motocross Combine series featuring top amateur racers like SLR Honda’s Leum Oehlhof. In qualifying times for the 450 class, Jett and Hunter Lawrence set impressive paces with Jett nearly two seconds faster than others in session one.
This marked Honda's first sweep of both classes at RedBud since 2008. Jett Lawrence now leads the 450 title chase by 51 points over Hunter Lawrence who is second in standings. Shimoda reduced his gap in the 250 points race from 58 to 38 points behind leader Haiden Deegan.
