Alpine Finalises Development Of A390 Sport Fastback With Wet Track Testing

Alpine's engineering teams are in the final stages of testing the A390 at Michelin's Ladoux complex. The focus is on perfecting the car's chassis balance on wet surfaces, thanks to Alpine's advanced technologies like Active Torque Vectoring. The Alpine Drive Sound system, designed to enhance the driving experience with immersive audio, is also undergoing its last validation checks.

The A390 will be officially unveiled on 27 May 2025 in Dieppe, France, just before Alpine celebrates its 70th anniversary. This sport fastback aims to blend the agility and driving pleasure of the iconic A110 with the practicality of a five-seater. It measures 4,615 mm in length, 1,532 mm in height, and 1,885 mm in width.

Before hitting the market, the A390 is being rigorously tested at Ladoux Technology Centre in Auvergne. The facility's 4,100 m wet test track allows engineers to push the vehicle to its limits using specific Michelin tyres—20-inch Pilot Sport EV and 21-inch Pilot Sport 4S. These tests help validate the car's dynamic performance and technological components.

The A390 features three electric motors that enable Alpine Active Torque Vectoring and five driving modes. Among these modes is a new Track Mode that adjusts ESC settings for enhanced control. Engineers are fine-tuning these systems to ensure optimal performance under various conditions.

The Alpine Drive Sound system is also being tested at Ladoux. It offers two distinct sound profiles: one inspired by the A110's sporty signature and another for everyday use with less bass. Both profiles can be adjusted or turned off entirely, providing flexibility for different driving experiences.

Alpine has collaborated with Michelin to develop specific tyres for the A390, marked with an A39 designation. These tyres are crucial for assessing how well the car handles different road conditions during testing.

Upcoming Debut

The world premiere of the Alpine A390 will occur during a live-streamed press conference on 27 May 2025. This event marks a significant milestone for Alpine as it introduces this innovative model to a global audience.

Founded by Jean Rédélé in 1955, Alpine has long been known for its French-style sports cars. In recent years, it has evolved into a brand dedicated to exclusive sports cars under Groupe Renault. This transformation benefits from expertise gained from Formula One and Renault Sport teams.

Alpine continues to uphold its legacy of producing compact, lightweight vehicles that offer agility and driving pleasure. The upcoming release of the A390 reflects this commitment while incorporating modern innovations.
