FASTag Annual Pass Debut On August 15: Total Freedom For Rs 3,000?
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is set to introduce the FASTag annual pass across India on August 15. This initiative aims to lower travel expenses for users of state and national highways and expressways. The pass promises a seamless travel experience, but it will be available only for private vehicles, excluding commercial ones.
Where To Buy FASTag Annual Pass?
Purchasing the FASTag annual pass is straightforward. It can only be bought through the Rajmargyatra mobile app or the NHAI website, not from banks selling regular FASTags.

FASTag Annual Pass Cost
After verifying vehicle eligibility and the associated FASTag account, users must pay ₹3,000 for the base year 2025-26. Once payment is confirmed, activation takes up to two hours.
FASTag Annual Pass Validity
The validity of the FASTag annual pass extends for one year or 200 transactions from activation, whichever comes first. For example, if activated on August 15 this year, it remains valid until August 14 next year or until 200 transactions are made. Post-expiry, it reverts to a regular FASTag account unless recharged with ₹3,000.

It's important to note that this annual pass is not mandatory. Existing FASTag accounts will continue functioning as usual without it. Users who opt out can still use their FASTags for regular toll payments at applicable rates.
FASTag Annual Pass Eligible Toll Plazas
The annual pass is accepted only at National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) toll plazas. At other locations like State Highways (SH), managed by state governments or local bodies, the FASTag operates as a regular one with standard fees deducted.
Existing FASTag Users...
If you already have an active FASTag on your vehicle that isn't blacklisted, there's no need to purchase a new one for the annual pass. Ensure your existing FASTag is properly affixed and linked to a valid vehicle registration number.
Restrictions on Usage
The annual pass is non-transferable between vehicles; it's valid only for the registered vehicle's FASTag. Using it on another vehicle leads to deactivation. Additionally, passes won't be issued for FASTags registered solely with a chassis number; updating the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) is necessary.
This pass applies exclusively to private passenger vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans used non-commercially. Using it in commercial vehicles results in immediate deactivation without notice.
DriveSpark Thinks
For frequent highway travellers paying hefty tolls, this pass could be beneficial. However, understanding its terms and conditions before purchasing ensures clarity and avoids potential issues.
