EVgo Launches First Fast Charging Stations Through Toyota’s Empact Vision In California
EVgo Inc. and Toyota Motor North America have launched their first DC fast charging stations in Baldwin Park and Sacramento, California. These stations are part of Toyota's "Empact" initiative, which aims to support underserved communities in transitioning to electric vehicles (EVs). The stations, managed by EVgo, can charge up to eight vehicles at once with 350kW fast chargers.
The collaboration between EVgo and Toyota focuses on expanding public charging infrastructure. This is crucial as more consumers consider purchasing or leasing EVs. Scott Levitan, Executive Vice President of Growth at EVgo, stated that automaker partnerships have been vital for their expansion. He expressed gratitude for Toyota's ongoing support in this endeavor.
Toyota's "Empact" vision was first introduced in April 2023. It aims to provide mobility solutions for all by focusing on three key areas: enhancing access to charging, offering affordable mobility options, and reducing carbon emissions. The new stations will offer convenient charging access to local communities.
The newly opened stations are strategically located near amenities such as grocery stores, restaurants, and shopping malls. This ensures that users can easily access other services while charging their vehicles. James George from Toyota Motor North America emphasized the importance of making these stations both convenient and efficient for all battery EV drivers.
In addition to the infrastructure development, EVgo has extended its charging program with Toyota. This program offers one year of free charging for those who purchase or lease the 2025 Toyota bZ4X battery EV compact crossover SUV. Customers can use the Toyota App to find EVgo stations and activate the complimentary charging offer.
Community Impact
State Senator Angelique Ashby highlighted the significance of bringing advanced fast chargers to Sacramento. She noted that these stations are crucial for promoting clean energy transportation in Senate District 8. State Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio also praised the new station in Baldwin Park for supporting residents and visitors while contributing to improved air quality.
EVgo is a leading provider of public fast charging services across the United States, operating over 1,100 stations in 40 states. They work with various businesses to deploy accessible charging infrastructure nationwide. Their Innovation Lab conducts interoperability testing and collaborates with automakers to enhance the EV charging experience.
