Electric Vehicles Transform Waste Collection In Indore: All Details Here
Electric vehicles are gaining popularity across India, replacing traditional petrol and diesel vehicles. Governments are actively promoting these eco-friendly alternatives, encouraging their use over conventional vehicles. This trend is evident in public transportation, where electric vehicles are becoming more common. To further boost adoption, governments offer incentives and subsidies to individuals choosing electric vehicles.
In response to this shift, Indore is introducing 100 new electric vehicles for waste collection. These vehicles, all SWITCH IeV3 models from SWITCH Mobility, are tailored for the city's waste management needs. The Indore Municipal Corporation has customised them with fully enclosed bodies to prevent waste spillage during transit.
The SWITCH IeV3 boasts a carrying capacity of 1.25 tons and can travel 140 km on a single charge. It runs on a 25.6 KWh lithium-ion battery paired with a 40 kW electric motor, delivering 190 Nm of torque. The vehicle can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h, making it efficient for urban waste collection tasks.
This model includes several advanced features such as automatic transmission, electric power steering, and hill hold assist. Additionally, it offers a dual-tone cabin and a regenerative braking system, enhancing both functionality and safety for operators.
Electric vehicles for waste collection aren't exclusive to Indore. In Tamil Nadu, cities like Chennai have been using them for years. Their application extends beyond waste management; they are increasingly used for delivery services as well. This broader adoption highlights the versatility and environmental benefits of electric vehicles in various sectors.
