Elddis Transport Welcomes First Mercedes-Benz Actros L ProCabin To North East Fleet

Elddis Transport, a prominent haulier, has embraced the latest in Mercedes-Benz truck technology by acquiring the first Actros L ProCabin to operate in the North East. This Actros L 2548 is part of an eight-truck order from Bell Truck and Van, set to be delivered over four weeks. The vehicle's unique design and Elddis livery make it stand out on the road.

The Actros L ProCabin features a smooth front panel that enhances aerodynamics, improving fuel efficiency by up to three percent. Powered by 350 kW (476 hp), 12.8-litre six-cylinder engines from the OM 471 family, these trucks are designed for optimal performance and efficiency. Inside, they offer premium bunks, heated seats, fridges, ambient lighting, and additional USB-C sockets.

These trucks incorporate advanced technology to enhance safety and efficiency. They include Mercedes-Benz Active Brake Assist's sixth generation, Active Sideguard Assist, and Front Guard Assist. These systems help meet or exceed current General Safety Regulations. Predictive Powertrain improves driver comfort and efficiency, while My TruckPoint offers over-the-air services directly to the cab.

Elddis Transport has been a long-time supporter of Actros trucks and their innovations. The company has marked various milestones with specially-finished Actros vehicles. Their fleet of over 160 trucks prominently features Mercedes-Benz models. Elddis maintains a strong relationship with Bell Truck and Van, which operates a maintenance unit at Elddis headquarters for their Actros tractors.

Elddis Transport's history dates back to the late 1800s when Thomas Cook started with a horse and cart. His son Siddle C. Cook ran a renowned heavy haulage firm in the mid-20th century. Nigel Cook's father Geoffrey established the current business in the 1970s. Today, Elddis is known for its expertise in FMCG transport across the UK.

The new truck made its debut at the Transport Association’s 70th anniversary event at Silverstone racetrack before being fitted with an air management kit for aerodynamic efficiency with high-cube trailers. Nigel Cook stated that investing in these trucks is not risky due to their reliable Mercedes-Benz engineering.

"The Actros L ProCabin has been described as a 'Marmite' truck, but we love it," said Elddis Executive Chairman Nigel Cook. "It's different, but that is what state of the art often is." He added that an early photo of the truck on Facebook garnered 320,000 views quickly.

Elddis Transport continues to build on its family ethos with loyal customers and staff while offering transport, warehousing, and distribution services across various sectors in the UK.
