Duncan Aldred Takes Leadership Role As President Of North America At General Motors

General Motors has appointed Duncan Aldred as the head of its North America region. Previously, Aldred served as VP for commercial growth strategies and operations. He now steps into the role of GM senior VP and president of North America. This change is effective immediately, and Aldred will report to Rory Harvey, GM's executive VP and president of Global Markets.

Harvey emphasised that Aldred's new role involves building on GM's sales momentum and leveraging its extensive vehicle portfolio. He stated, "Duncan comes to the role leading our North America business having driven a decade of growth in Buick and GMC, and most recently leading and modernizing our commercial operations to better serve our customers." Harvey added that this move aligns with GM's strategy to offer unmatched choices across both ICE and EV portfolios.

Duncan Aldred Named GM President for North America

Aldred brings over three decades of experience at GM, having held various leadership positions in sales, services, and marketing. In 2010, he became chairman and managing director of Vauxhall in the UK. By 2013, he was leading Opel's global sales, marketing, and aftersales. His leadership extended to being VP of global GMC and Buick in 2014.

During his tenure with GMC and Buick, Aldred launched sub-brands like Buick Avenir and GMC AT4. He also achieved record sales for GMC pick-ups and shifted Buick's focus from sedans to SUVs. Under his guidance, both brands consistently ranked in the top two for customer satisfaction according to JD Power surveys.

In 2024, Aldred took on a role focused on modernising customer experiences while creating growth opportunities across various products and services. These included GM Energy, GM Envolve, OnStar, Customer Care and Aftersales, as well as Digital Sales and Service.

Aldred expressed enthusiasm about his new position by stating: "With the best and broadest portfolio in the business and a team that is totally focused on our customers, GM is in a strong position in North America." He looks forward to collaborating with teams, dealers, and partners to enhance customer sales and ownership experiences.

Aldred aims to continue winning in North America by working closely with all stakeholders involved. His extensive experience within GM positions him well to lead the company through evolving market conditions while maintaining strong customer relationships.
