Don Romano Departs Hyundai Auto Canada To Lead Hyundai Motor Australia After Successful Decade
Don Romano has been appointed as the new president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Australia. He will also serve as the chief advisor to Hyundai Motor Asia Pacific. This change follows his successful decade-long leadership at Hyundai Canada, where he achieved record retail sales and market share, making Hyundai the second-largest import brand in Canada.
During Romano's tenure at Hyundai Canada, he spearheaded the launch of Genesis, which has become Canada's fastest-growing luxury brand. Under his guidance, Genesis experienced seven consecutive years of growth since its introduction. In 2024 alone, over 7,000 Genesis vehicles were sold, marking its best year yet.

Romano's leadership saw Hyundai Canada's market share rise from 7.3% to 8.2%. Since joining in January 2014, 1.38 million Hyundai and Genesis vehicles have been sold. In 2024, Hyundai Auto Canada reached an all-time annual sales record with 138,755 units sold.
José Muñoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, praised Romano's leadership: "Don is a remarkable leader, who manages to push himself and his team to new benchmarks year after year." Muñoz highlighted Romano's commitment to excellence and the positive impact he left on his team.
Romano championed diversity within Hyundai Auto Canada. Currently, women make up 40% of the workforce, including half of the national managers. Additionally, mid-level management diversity stands at 65%, with individuals identifying as diverse or minorities.
His efforts in promoting inclusivity earned him several accolades: the 2024 Canadian Black Book Icon Award and the 2023 Women’s Executive Network Ally of Excellence Award among others. These recognitions reflect his dedication to fostering a more inclusive workplace.
