Dempsey And Davis Achieve ProAm Victories At McLaren Trophy America Weekend In Virginia
John Dempsey and Andrew Davis of RWE Motorsport celebrated their first ProAm victories in the 2025 season at VIRginia International Raceway. These wins helped them close the gap in the championship standings. After a two-month break since competing at COTA in Texas, teams were eager to race on the 3.270-mile circuit near Virginia's border.
In challenging hot and humid conditions, drivers had to manage both their cars and hydration levels. The McLaren Trophy EVO cars, with 585PS, demanded precision and endurance from each driver. Tommy Pintos led the first qualifying session but faced a jump start penalty, which negated his lead.
The weekend saw James Li and Casey Dennis extend their Pro class lead with another victory after a late Safety Car incident shuffled positions. Meanwhile, Deniz Teoman and Jeff Cook from Dark Horse Racing surprised many by winning the overall race despite being an Am class entry.
Unfortunately for Teoman and Cook, they lost their pole position on Sunday due to a technical infringement. This setback forced them to start from the back in the second race. Kevin Madsen took advantage of this by securing first place on the grid for Race for RP.
The newly introduced Papaya Cup recognised achievements of older or less experienced drivers. This event welcomed new podium finishers like Teoman, Brandon Kreutz, Steve Sorbaro, and Tom Kopczynski across both ProAm and Am classes.
A mid-race Safety Car period added drama as it bunched up competitors again. During this time, James Li seized the opportunity to take the lead when a Race for RP car went wide at turn one.
Upcoming Challenges
The championship will continue at Road America from August 15th to 17th for rounds seven and eight. With title battles intensifying, these races could be pivotal in determining championship outcomes.
"McLaren Trophy America delivered two more really exciting races," said Rob Bell, Sporting Director of McLaren Automotive. "There were strong battles throughout the field, which provided some great racing."
The McLaren Trophy was launched in July 2022 as a professional series aimed at ambitious GT drivers. It features Artura Trophy Evo cars based on McLaren Artura GT4 models with enhanced aerodynamics and power output of 585PS.
