Delhi-Meerut Expressway Launches Automated Toll Collection System: Bye-Bye FASTag
The Delhi-Meerut Expressway is pioneering a new toll collection system set to transform highways across India. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways plans to install Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology on all expressways and national highways. A recent expert committee highlighted potential issues with GPS-based toll collection, leading the ministry to explore alternative solutions. Consequently, the new system will rely solely on number plate reader cameras, avoiding GPS technology altogether.
The goal is to create a more efficient toll collection process, easing travel on Indian highways and reducing congestion at toll plazas. The successful implementation of this technology on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway could soon set a benchmark for other regions in India.
