Dakar 2025 Stage 8 Results: KTM Luciano Benavides And Toyota's Henk Lategan Win As Quintanilla Crashes Out
Stage 8 of the 47th edition of the Dakar rally saw competitors travel from Al Duwadimi to the Saudi Arabian capital city of Riyadh. KTM's Luciano Benavides and Toyota's Henk Lategan claimed victory today.
The route for Stage 8 saw riders cover a total of 733km (including a 483km timed special stage) across dirt and gravel traps along with the usual sand and dunes of the Saudi Arabian desert. The cars, on the other hand, covered 737 kilometres, which included a 487km timed special stage.

Dakar 2025 Stage 8 Results - Bikes
KTM's Luciano Benavides claimed his first victory of Dakar 2025 as the Argentinian rider finished today's stage 04:50:46 to claim victory as the world's toughest rally rolled into Riyadh. Benavides ended the day 02:08 ahead of Honda's Adrien Van Beveren.
Benavides and Van Beveren had stopped early in the stage to assist Pablo Quintanilla after the Honda rider fell and injured his shoulder after the 133km mark, knocking himself out of Dakar 2025.

The final podium spot on offer today was claimed by Honda's Toscha Schareina, with the Spanish rider ending the stage 02:14 seconds behind Benavides. Defending champion Ricky Brabec brought his Honda home in 4th place, ending the day 04:21 behind Benavides, while Skyler Howes made it 4 Honda riders in the top 5, as he finished the day 04:59 adrift of Benavides.
Michael Docherty was the fastest Rally 2 rider today in 6th place, 06:28 behind his Argentinian teammate. He was followed by Dakar 2025 leader Daniel Sanders (06:44 behind) and Edgar Canet, the fastest Rally 2 rider in the overall standings (07:11 adrift of Benavides).

Hero's Nacho Cornejo finished in 9th place (07:33 behind), while Sherco's Rui Goncalves claimed 10th place, ending the stage 14:13 behind Benavides' KTM.
In the overall standings, KTM's Daniel Sander continues to lead Dakar 2025, with a time of 44:26:52. Honda's Toscha Schareina is now just 11:03 behind the Australian in 2nd place, while Adrien Van Beveren is in 3rd place, 21:31 adrift of Sanders.

Today's winner, Luciano Benavides, has climbed into 4th place; the Argentinian is now 30:48 behind his Aussie teammate and 8 seconds ahead of defending champion Ricky Brabec, who lies in 5th place. Hero's Nacho Cornejo is still in 7th overall, 53:32 behind the KTM of Sanders.
Dakar 2025 Stage 8 Results - Cars

In the cars category, it was the overall leader of Dakar 2025, Toyota's Henk Lategan, who ended the day on the top step of the podium. The South African driver finished the special stage with a time of 04:51:54, which included a two-minute penalty for speeding to claim his second stage win of Dakar 2025.
Thanks to his speeding penalties, Lategan finished the stage only 01:47 ahead of his fellow countryman and teammate Guy Botterill. Century Racing's Mathieu Serradori claimed the final podium spot on offer. The French driver ended the stage in Riyadh, 04:04 behind Lategan.

South Africa's Brian Baragwanath finished in 4th place today, with the Century Racing driver ending the stage just 5 seconds behind his teammate Serradori. Taking 5th place today was Ford's Nani Roma, who finished 05:17 behind Lategan.
In the general standings after eight stages, Henk Lategan continues to lead Dakar 2025 with a time of 42:05:02. The South African Toyota driver now leads Overdrive Racing's Yazeed Al Rajhi by 05:41. The Saudi Arabian driver lost 05:20 today to Lategan as he ended today's stage in 6th place.
The final podium spot continues to be held by Ford's Mattias Ekstrom, with the Swedish driver now 28:55 behind Lategan. Dacia's Nasser Al-Attiyah is in 4th place, 34:14 behind Lategan, as he ended today's stage in 11th place. The final spot in the top 5 is held by Ford's Mitchell Guthrie, with the American driver now 55:39 behind Lategan.
