Dakar 2025 Stage 7 Results: Daniel Sanders Claims 5th Stage Win As Lucas Moraes Takes Cars Win

Stage 7 of the 47th edition of the Dakar rally saw competitors loop around Al Duwadimi, covering a total of 716km (709 for the bikes), including a 419km (412km for bikes) special stage. KTM's Daniel Sanders and Toyota's Lucas Moraes claimed victory.

The route for Stage 7 had been modified to ensure that the helicopters deployed for the safety of competitors racing across the Saudi Arabian sands. The choppers were called into action many times in stage 6 and were still flying at the end of the day, which forced the organizers to delay and shorten the special stage.

At the end of Stage 7, a familiar face was sitting atop the podium after the loop across the desert to and from Al Duwadimi. KTM's Daniel Sanders claimed his fifth stage win of Dakar 2025, covering the 412 km-long special in 04:10:33.

Sanders ended the stage with a 03:36 advantage over teammate Edgar Canet, with the young Spanish rider the fastest rider in the Rally 2 category today. It was another Spanish rider in third place, with Honda's Tosha Schareina, ending the day in third place, 03:47 behind Sanders.

Honda's Chilean rider Pablo Quintanilla, ended the day in 4th place, 05:27 off the pace while his French teammate Adrien Van Beveren, completed the top 5 with a time of 04:17:29, 06:56 behind Sanders. KTM's Luciano Benavides ended the day in 6th place, 07:24 behind his Aussie teammate.

The lone remaining Hero rider at Dakar 2025, Nacho Cornejo, ended the day in 7th place, 08:04 adrift of Sanders. He was followed by the two Shercos of Rui Goncalves (08:46 behind) and Lorenzo Santolino (09:27 adrift) with defending champion Ricky Brabec claiming the final spot in the top 10, with the American Honda rider ending the stage, 10:01 adrift of Sanders.

In the general classification after Round 7 of Dakar 2025, Daniel Sanders continues to lead the world's toughest rally with an overall time of 39:29:22. After Stage 7, Sanders has opened a 15:33 gap over Honda's Toscha Schareina. Honda's Adrien Van Beveren is in third place, 26:07 behind Sanders.

Honda's defending champion Ricky Brabec lies in 4th place, 33:19 behind Sanders. Luciano Benavides is in 5th place, the Argentinian rider 37:32 behind his Australian teammate. Honda's Skyler Howes (6th place, 38:48 behind) and Pablo Quintanilla (7th place, 46:19 behind).

Hero's Nacho Cornejo is in 8th place. The Chilean Dragon is currently 52:43 adrift of Sanders and is the last of the riders at the Dakar to be under an hour behind the rampaging Australian rider.

Sherco's Luciano Santolino in in 9th place, 01:18:55 behind Sanders, while the Edgar Canet, who currently leads the Rally 2 category, is in 10th overall, 01:20:35 behind his teammate from Australia.

Stage 7 of Dakar 2025 saw Toyota claim another stage win, with its Brazilian driver Lucas Moraes ending the 419km long special stage in first place. Moraes finished the timed special stage in 04:01:49, despite an incorrect road book note for km 158 of the special causing several drivers at the front of the field to lose their way. This resulted in even more kilometers across the dunes getting delimited for the day.

It was a good day for Ford at Dakar 2025, with the American manufacturer capturing the remaining two podium spots. Sweden's Mattias Ekstrom was the faster of the two Raptor drivers ending the day 07:41 behind Moraes. American driver Mitchell Guthrie claimed the final podium spot, 09:28 behind the Hilux of Moraes.

5-time Dakar Rally winner, Nasser Al-Attiyah brought home his Dacia Sandrider in 4th place, ending the day 11:15 behind Moraes but crucially gaining over 8 and a half minutes over the Rally leader Henk Lategan who finished in 15th place. Toyota's Seth Quintero, rounded off the top 5, 11:38 behind his Brazilian teammate.

In the overall standings, Toyota's South African driver Henk Lategan's lead has been cut down to just 21 seconds over Overdrive Racing's local driver Yazeed Al Rajhi who ended the stage in 7th place. Mattias Ekstrom is the fastest of the Fords still in contention for the overall win with his time of 37:23:33

just 10:25 behind Lategan. Nasser Al-Attiyah is in 4th place, 21:57 (including 16 minutes in penalties) behind Lategan, though the Qatari driver must be having flashbacks to last year when the same penalty issue cost him the overall win.

The final spot in the Top 5 in the cars category of Dakar 2025 is claimed by the Ford Raptor driven by Mitchell Guthrie. The American driver is 40:01 (9 mins of penalties) behind the Toyota of Lategan.
