Dakar 2025 Stage 1 Results: KTM's Sanders & Toyota's QUintero Win As Hero's Buhler Withdraws
Stage 1 of the 47th edition of the Dakar rally saw KTM rider Daniel Sanders claim his second stage victory of the race. In the cars category, Toyota's Seth Quintero claimed the stage victory at the Dakar Rally. Click for details.
Stage 1 of the 2025 Dakar Rally saw competitors cover a total of 499 kilometres in a loop that started and ended at the Saudi Arabian town of Bisha. The stage included a 413km long timed special stage and saw competitors travel across gravel and dirt tracks and of course, sand.

Dakar 2025 Stage 1 Results - Bikes
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Daniel Sanders took his second consecutive win in Dakar 2025 as the Aussie rider took control of the stage at the kilometre 151 mark and never looked back. Sanders finished the stage in four hours, 41 minutes and 27 seconds.
Taking second today was Honda rider and defending Dakar champion Ricky Brabec of the United States. Brabec ended the day, two minutes and 4 seconds behind Sanders.

The final podium spot for Stage 1 of Dakar 2025 was taken Hero's Ross Branch. The rider nicknamed the Ferrari of the Kalahari by his fans, brought home his Hero 450 Rally in four hours 43 minutes and 53 seconds, two minutes and 26 seconds behind Sanders.
Stage 1 of Dakar 2025 also saw Hero's Sebastian Buhler exit the rally after the German crashed at the kilometre 68 mark and injured his shoulder. Buhler was assisted by American rider Skyler Howes who stayed at his side until the medical teams arrived to lift the stricken German to safety. Howes ended the day in 4th place after he was given back the time he lost when assisting Buhler.
Hero's Nacho Cornejo was the second rider to start the stage and Chilean Dragon made the most of it by claiming a host of time bonuses that amounted to 5 minutes and 39 seconds, which lifted him to 9th spot in today's standings.
In the overall standings, Daniel Sanders leads the bikes category of Dakar 2025 with an overall time of four hours, 41 minutes and 27 seconds. Sanders leads Dakar 2025 by two minutes and four seconds from defending champion Ricky Brabec. Hero's Ross Branch is in third place, two minutes and 26 seconds behind Sanders.
Among the Indian riders still at the Dakar, Ashish Raorane was the fastest, finishing in 9th spot, 2 hours, 51 minutes and 50 seconds behind Sanders while Jatin Jain finished in 131st place (out of 132 riders) and is now out of the running for good as he is classified as over 20 hours behind the KTM of Daniel Sanders
Dakar 2025 Stage 1 Results - Cars
For the cars category, Stage 1 of Dakar 2025 saw Toyota's American driver Seth Quintero claim the stage victory at the Dakar. Quintero was amongst the top racers throughout the day and he surged ahead at the end to win the stage with a time of four hours, 35 minutes and 9 seconds.

Claiming second place today at Dakar 2025 X-Raid Mini's Guerlain Chicherit who ended the day, 55 seconds behind Quintero in his Mini. The final podium spot was claimed by another Toyota driver, Saood Variawa, who ended the day one minute and 48 seconds behind Chicherit.
Czech driver Martin Prokop ended the day in fourth place. The Orlen Jipocar team driver ended the day one minute and 49 seconds behind Chicherit. Dacia's Cristina Gutierrez took the fifth spot ending the day two minutes and 13 seconds behind the stage winner.
Among the pre-race favourites, defending champion Carlos Sainz was the fastest, ending the day in 8th overall, three minutes and 27 seconds off the pace. The other Fords of Markus Ekstrom and Nani Roma ended in 15th and 17th respectively.
5-time Dakar winner Nasser Al-Attiyah ended the day in 21st, 13 minutes and 13 seconds behind the stage winner. The third and final Dacia driver, 9-time WRC champion Sebastien Loeb, ended the day in 25th place, 14 minutes and 16 seconds behind Quintero after was given a two minute penalty. Loeb deliberately stopped for a bit just ahead of the finish line to avoid starting too far up for the 48-hour chrono stage that starts tomorrow.
