Dacia Spring Electric Car Serves Free Chips To Celebrate National Fish And Chip Day In Deal
Destiny Harold, known as TikTok's Chip Shop Diva, delighted the people of Deal, Kent, by serving free chips from a pop-up chip shop powered by two Dacia Spring cars. This event celebrated National Fish and Chip Day. The all-electric Dacia Spring used its Vehicle to Load (V2L) technology to fry the chips using power from its own battery.
Tourists visiting Deal on 6 June enjoyed a special treat as Destiny Harold served them free chips. The historic pier hosted the Dacia Batter-y Power Chip Shop for one day. Dual tabletop fryers were powered by the V2L technology of the fully electric Dacia Spring. This technology allows users to plug in and operate almost any mains-powered household device using the car's battery.
The public was thrilled as Destiny and her pop-up chippy handed out over 300 free cones of chips and a limited run of battered fish during a busy lunch break. An orderly queue formed at this quintessentially British seaside scene. Research by Dacia revealed that 66% of Brits enjoy fish and chips on holiday, with cod (48%) and haddock (19%) being the most popular choices.
Dacia collaborated with The Blue Mermaid Fish Bar in Deal to organise this event for National Fish and Chip Day. This celebration aims to raise awareness of local fish and chip shops. Luke Broad, Dacia Brand Director for the UK, stated: "Cooking chips using the Vehicle to Load technology on the Dacia Spring is a fun way to show just how versatile our cars are."
James Cornish, a food psychologist, commented: "There are few things that unite the British public quite like fish and chips." He described it as a national treasure loved across generations and regions. According to him, this simple meal carries memories, comfort, and delight beyond expectations.
The Dacia Spring is priced from £14,995, making it the UK's most affordable new electric car. Often described as "cheap as chips," it offers more than expected at its price point. Using it to give away Britain's favourite seaside treat in Deal combined popular food with an electric car designed for accessible mobility.

Dacia has been providing value-for-money cars since its inception in 1968 and relaunch by Renault Group in 2004. Models like Sandero, Duster, Jogger, Spring, and Bigster have become market references. Since launching in the UK in January 2013, over 260,000 Dacia vehicles have been sold there.
Destiny Harold expressed her joy about participating in this event: "I've had a lovely time in Deal with Dacia – what could be better than free chippy chips?" The event highlighted how electric mobility can be both practical and enjoyable while celebrating a beloved British tradition.
