Dacia's Mioveni Factory Reaches Milestone Of Eight Million Vehicles Produced In 57 Years

The Dacia Vehicle Plant in Mioveni, Romania, marked a significant achievement on 24 April 2025 by producing its eight millionth vehicle. This milestone was reached with the production of a Dacia Bigster in Indigo Blue. The plant, which covers 355,000 square metres, manufactures a car every 55 seconds, resulting in 1,357 vehicles daily. This site has been pivotal to Dacia's history since it began operations over 57 years ago.

Inaugurated on 20 August 1968, the Mioveni plant initially produced the Dacia 1100 model under the Renault R8 licence. Over the first three decades, production mainly focused on models developed under the Renault 12 licence. These included the Dacia 1300/1310 and its variants like the 1310 Sport and Pick-Up. From 1969 to 2006, nearly 2.3 million units were manufactured, including around 319,000 commercial vehicles.

A new era for Dacia began in 1999 when Renault Group acquired the Mioveni plant. This acquisition led to the launch of the Logan model in 2004. Since then, six generations of models have been produced at this facility. The Dacia Duster holds the production record with over 2.6 million units made since its launch in 2010. The latest generation offers improved design and technology.

Dacia's latest model is the Bigster, which has already attracted over 13,000 orders before reaching European retailers. This model reflects Dacia's core values by providing robust and well-equipped family-friendly cars at great value. UK customers can expect deliveries soon, with test drives available within weeks.

The Mioveni plant has been instrumental in Dacia's journey since its inception in 1968. It spans an area of 355,000 square metres and employs approximately 6,850 people. Women make up a significant portion of the workforce—48% in top management roles and 27% in manufacturing positions.

Over time, several models have been produced at this facility including the Dacia Nova launched in 1995 as Romania's first independently designed model. Subsequent developments led to SupeRNova and Solenza models. The plant also produces other popular models like Sandero and Jogger.
