Cole Richards Triumphs In Round 2 Of The 2025 Formula DRIFT PROSPEC Championship In New Jersey
Cole Richards emerged victorious in the second round of the Formula DRIFT Link ECU PROSPEC Championship at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Englishtown, NJ. This win marked a significant comeback for Richards, who had previously celebrated a win in New Jersey during his rookie year in 2023. His victory propelled him from 12th to second place in the championship standings.
Richards faced Nate Chen in the final showdown, where he secured the win due to his superior lead run. Despite losing, Chen achieved his first podium finish since joining PROSPEC in 2021. This performance boosted Chen from tenth to fourth place in the championship race.
Dmitriy Brutskiy, a two-time PROSPEC Champion, finished third after being eliminated by Richards in the Top 4. However, Brutskiy's consistent performance has placed him at the top of the championship leaderboard with a ten-point lead over Richards. Jerry Johnson claimed fourth place and won Thursday's Seeding Bracket.
Johnson's impressive performance earned him 42 points over the weekend, moving him from 20th to sixth place overall. He also took the lead in the Rookie of the Year title chase. Meanwhile, other rookies faced challenges during this event.
Chellee Hansen experienced a setback when her Team Hansen Supercharged Nissan S13 flipped during the Seeding Bracket. Although repairs were made for competition heats, she was eliminated by Trevor Root in the Top 32. Collete Davis faced elimination after her BMW was pushed onto safety barriers during her Top 16 battle with Nik Jimenez.
Despite efforts from several teams, including Brutskiy, Davis's BMW couldn't continue past the burnout box for the Top 8 heat. Thirteen-year-old rookie Camren Sorensen was unable to compete against his sister Amanda due to mechanical issues with his BMW.
Sorensen and Talaska's Performances
Amanda Sorensen knocked out Cory Talaska from the Top 16 but was later eliminated by Chen in the Top 8. Talaska dropped from first to third place but remains tied on points with Richards. All teams are required to use Link engine management and GT Radial tires throughout the championship.
