James Deane Claims Victory In Round 2 Of The 2025 Formula DRIFT Pro Championship In Atlanta
James Deane emerged victorious in the second round of the Formula DRIFT PRO Championship. The event took place at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on May 10, 2025. Deane's win came after two intense One More Time requests from the judges to distinguish his performance from Fredric Aasbo, who secured second place.
The competition was significantly influenced by weather conditions. Rain during practice left the track wet, but sighting laps were not required as drivers had prior experience with such conditions. Although the track dried during most of the Top 32 heats, heavy rain returned for the final heats, leading to dramatic slides and exciting overtakes.
A notable match-up in the Top 32 was between James Deane and Vaughn Gittin Jr., both from RTR Motorsports. This highly anticipated duel saw Deane narrowly defeating Gittin Jr., propelling him towards a podium finish.
In the final showdown, Deane's familiarity with wet conditions gave him an edge over Aasbo, who is comfortable on ice. Despite this, the judges found it challenging to separate them, leading to two One More Time requests. After their sixth run, Deane was declared the winner by a slim margin.
Aurimas Bakchis secured third place with impressive car control, tying him in points with Branden Sorensen, who finished fifth. Jhonnattan Castro achieved his best result since joining the series in 2012 by finishing fourth in Atlanta.

Connor O'Sullivan was the top rookie in Atlanta, finishing 22nd overall and leading the Rookie of the Year race into Round 3 with nine points. In terms of championship standings after Round 2, James Deane and Fredric Aasbo are tied at first place with 90 points each.
