Compact SUV Sales In India: Hyundai Creta Leads Market In March 2025

In India, the demand for SUVs has been on the rise, with compact SUVs gaining significant traction. These vehicles, typically measuring between 4.2 and 4.4 meters in length, have captured a notable share of the market. While smaller sub-compact SUVs are available, compact SUVs are often seen as offering better value for money.

As of now, there are 14 different compact SUV models available in India. In March 2025, these models collectively sold 51,416 units, marking a 2.75% increase from the 50,041 units sold in March 2024. This growth underscores the increasing popularity of compact SUVs among Indian consumers.

Hyundai Creta Dominates Compact SUV Sales in March 2025

The Hyundai Creta continues to dominate the compact SUV segment. In March 2025, it not only led in its category but also emerged as the best-selling car overall in India. Hyundai sold 18,005 Creta vehicles in March 2025, up from 16,458 units in March 2024, reflecting a 9.73% increase in sales.

The introduction of the Creta Electric in January 2025 has significantly boosted its sales figures. One out of every three compact SUV buyers in India chooses a Hyundai Creta, solidifying its status as a popular choice. The electric variant has played a crucial role in this surge.

Trailing behind the Creta is the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara with 10,418 units sold in March 2025. This represents a decrease of 814 units compared to March 2024 when it sold 11,232 units. The Grand Vitara's sales also fell short by 251 units compared to February 2025.

In third place is the Kia Seltos with sales of 6,525 units in March 2025. This figure is consistent with its performance in February 2025 but shows a decline from March 2024 when it sold 7,912 units.

Toyota Hyryder and Tata Curvv Performance

The Toyota Hyryder secured fourth place with sales of 5,286 units in March 2025. This is a decrease from the previous year when it sold 5,965 units. However, it improved from February 2025's sales of just 4,314 units.

Fifth place went to the Tata Curvv with sales of 3,785 units. The coupe-style SUV was not available in March 2024 but showed an increase from February 2025's sales of 3,483 units.

Other Compact SUV Sales Figures

The Honda Elevate and Volkswagen Taigun took sixth and seventh places with sales figures of 2,475 and 1,590 units respectively. The Honda Elevate experienced a significant drop from its March 2024 sales of 3,277 units.

The Mahindra BE 6, Skoda Kushaq, and MG ZS EV occupied eighth to tenth places with close sales figures of 934, 897, and 856 units respectively. These positions include two electric vehicles.

Beyond these top sellers are other compact SUVs like the Mahindra XUV400 EV, MG Astor, Citroën C3 Aircross, and Citroën C3. However, none of these models reached a sales figure of more than 250 units in March 2025.

This data highlights the Hyundai Creta's strong position as a reliable choice among Indian consumers seeking compact SUVs.
