Colton Herta Achieves Pole Position At Detroit Grand Prix For Honda In NTT INDYCAR SERIES
Honda secured pole position in Detroit, with Colton Herta of Andretti Global leading the NTT INDYCAR SERIES qualifications for the second year running. Herta's teammate, Kyle Kirkwood, will start third after a minor mishap during his fastest lap. Both drivers aim to excel on street circuits, having previously achieved podium finishes.
Kirkwood expressed satisfaction with their performance despite missing pole position due to hitting the wall. "Good day for Andretti Global and Honda with a pole and a third here," he said. "I was on for a lap that was about four tenths quicker than what the current pole time is, and I hit the wall."
Graham Rahal from Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing qualified fifth, marking his second Firestone Fast Six appearance this year. He praised his car's performance, noting improvements over past races at this track. "The car has been shockingly great to drive here all weekend," Rahal stated.
Alex Palou, fresh from an Indy 500 win, also made it to the Firestone Fast Six. He aims to maintain his lead in the drivers' standings as he seeks another championship title. Palou currently holds a 112-point advantage and is determined to extend his success streak.
Other Honda-powered drivers advancing to the round of 12 included Rinus VeeKay from Dale Coyne Racing in seventh place, Scott Dixon from Chip Ganassi Racing in tenth, and Marcus Armstrong from Meyer Shank Racing in eleventh. All five Honda teams successfully moved at least one car into this round.
