Citroen Basalt X Pre-Bookings Open Ahead of Launch - 360° Camera, & Styling Tweaks & More

French carmaker Citroën has opened pre-bookings for the upcoming Basalt X variant of its C-Segment SUV-coupe. Customers can now reserve the Citroen Basalt X at the firm's dealerships across India or its online platform for a booking amount of Rs 11,000.

This Basalt X promises to be more than just a visual upgrade. Like it did with the C3 X, Citroen's set to give the Basalt X quite a few upgrades over the rest of the Basalt lineup for India.

The Citroen Basalt X is expected to feature quite a few changes on the exterior, including updated detailing on the grille, revised LED lighting signatures, and new alloy wheels and Basalt X badging. The interiors are expected to be a bit more plush and get more tech, including a 360-degree camera.

One thing that will not change is the powerplant under the bonnet. The Basalt X variants are expected to feature both versions of the 1.2-litre petrol engine already offered on the Basalt. Customers will be able to choose between the 82hp naturally aspirated engine or the 110hp turbo-petrol unit. Gearbox options will also remain the same, with the 6-speed manual or the torque-converter automatic being offered.

The Basalt is built on Citroën's India-specific C-Cubed platform, which also underpins the C3 and the Aircross. By adding the X badge to the nameplate, the French carmaker is clearly aiming the Basalt X at buyers who want a little more flash and tech in a midsize coupe-SUV.

Production is underway at Citroën's Tamil Nadu plant, the same facility where the Aircross is assembled. The Basalt X should roll out alongside the existing variants of the Basalt, which are expected to feature a price cut, just like what happened with the C3. Deliveries are expected to start soon after the launch.

In terms of rivals, the Basalt X's biggest challenger will be the Tata Curvv. Citroën has been highlighting the Basalt's coupe-SUV styling and upgraded features as its differentiators. The X trim simply strengthens that case by offering useful extras right from the factory.

Bookings for the Basalt X are now open at Citroën dealerships and online. While prices will be announced closer to launch, expectations are for a slight premium over the existing top-spec trims, reflecting the added kit and design tweaks that went into making the upcoming Basalt X trim levels.

Kumar Priyesh, Business Head & Director - Automotive Brands, Stellantis India, said, "The upcoming launch of the Basalt range marks an exciting chapter in our Citroën 2.0 strategy. With new intelligence feature upgrades, Basalt is crafted to deliver a more intuitive, comfortable, and confident driving experience. We're thrilled to open pre-bookings and invite customers to experience the next evolution of Citroën in India."
