Chevrolet Unveils Silverado EV ZR2 Off-Road Race Truck Concept For Mint 400 Competition
Chevrolet has introduced the Silverado EV ZR2 off-road race truck concept at the Mint 400, a renowned off-road race. This vehicle will compete in the event as part of Hall Racing's lineup. Chad Hall is set to drive this all-electric truck in the Open Production EV class, joining other models like the Silverado ZR2 and Colorado ZR2.
The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept is built with approximately 98% GM production parts. It features advanced off-road capabilities, including lifted suspension and Multimatic damper technology. Locking differentials and underbody skid protection are also part of its design. These elements follow the successful ZR2 formula seen in previous models.
This high-performance truck was developed swiftly, taking only five months to come to life. It boasts prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve dampers, which provide more than 13 inches of wheel travel for optimal off-road performance. The vehicle is equipped with 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires and a tri-motor electric propulsion system that generates 1,100 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque.
Chevrolet engineers will work closely with Chad Hall Racing during the Mint 400 to evaluate the truck's performance and durability. Insights gained from this collaboration will be applied to future production vehicles and performance parts offered by Chevrolet. Currently, over 44 off-road performance parts are available for customers to enhance their trucks.
Chad Hall, who leads Hall Racing, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Chevrolet engineers. "Working with the Chevy engineers is always a good day at the office," he stated. "What we learn from racing is applied to vehicles consumers can buy." He noted that an event like The Mint 400 equates to a lifetime of wear on a vehicle.
Hall Racing began competing in a stock production class with a Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 in 2017 and has completed 53 out of 54 races since then. The unveiling of the Silverado ZR2 race truck concept aligns with Chevrolet's plans to launch the 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss this summer, marking its first off-road-oriented EV variant.
Future Developments in Electric Vehicles
The Trail Boss model promises enhanced off-road capabilities with features like a factory-installed lift, 18-inch wheels, and 35-inch all-terrain tires. Red tow hooks add functionality while New Terrain Mode improves maneuverability in tight spaces. More details about this model will be released soon.
General Motors (NYSE:GM) continues to innovate in transportation by using advanced technology for safer and smarter vehicles.
