Chevrolet Blazer EV SS To Lead The Iconic Daytona 500 Race In February 2025

The 2025 Blazer EV SS, Chevrolet's fastest SS model to date, will lead the 67th DAYTONA 500 at Daytona International Speedway on February 16, 2025. This vehicle, which will be available for purchase later this quarter, can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds thanks to its Wide Open Watts (WOW) feature. It boasts an impressive 615 horsepower and generates 650 lb-ft of torque.

Chevrolet has a rich history in racing, and the Blazer EV SS exemplifies this legacy. Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, expressed excitement about showcasing the Blazer EV SS at such a prestigious event. "Chevrolet has a long history with racing – it’s in our DNA – and the Blazer EV SS is a testament to that," he stated. "We’re excited for customers to watch the Blazer EV SS — the quickest SS we’ve ever produced — pace such an iconic race this weekend."

The Blazer EV SS comes equipped with front Brembo brakes and a sport-tuned chassis. It also features a best-in-class 17.7-inch-diagonal colour touchscreen and standard Super Cruise driver assistance technology. The vehicle offers an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles on a full charge, although actual range may vary based on several factors.

This year marks the first time a Blazer has led "The Great American Race" and also the first instance of an electric vehicle pacing the event. Chevrolet has now paced the Daytona 500 field to green for the sixteenth time. Frank Kelleher, DIS track president, remarked on Chevrolet's involvement: "We’re honoured to have Chevrolet as a founding partner of Daytona International Speedway, and that the iconic brand chose to feature the all-new Blazer EV SS at the DAYTONA 500."

In addition to leading the DAYTONA 500, Chevrolet will also pace other NASCAR events that weekend. The Corvette Stingray will serve as the pace car for the Xfinity Series United Rentals 300 on February 15. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Silverado RST will lead the Craftsman Truck Series Fresh From Florida 250 on February 14.

Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president – GM Performance & Motorsports, highlighted Chevrolet's commitment to NASCAR: "Chevrolet is extremely proud to be a part of NASCAR’s season openers by pacing all of the events this year at the famed World Center of Racing." He added that they are privileged to continue their relationship with Daytona International Speedway in 2025.

Innovative Automotive Technologies

Ahead of the DAYTONA 500, Chevrolet plans to unveil its Blazer EV.R NASCAR Prototype. This prototype is part of a collaborative effort between NASCAR and OEM partners aimed at exploring new automotive technologies. Jim Campbell noted that "Our Chevrolet V8 engines continue to be an important part of NASCAR. Racing has always been an important platform for Chevrolet to test, learn and explore new technologies."

Race enthusiasts attending DIS can view all four models—Blazer EV SS, Blazer EV.R, Corvette Stingray, and Silverado RST—at various Chevrolet display areas throughout the venue.

Chevrolet's Dominance in Racing

Chevrolet achieved significant success in NASCAR during 2024 by winning all three Manufacturers’ Championships for two consecutive years. Across various series at Daytona International Speedway, Chevrolet boasts an impressive record with 102 victories including winning the DAYTONA 500 twenty-six times—more than any other manufacturer.

The current defending champion of DAYTONA 500 is William Byron who drives No.24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.
