Chase Briscoe Achieves Historic First Daytona 500 Pole Position For Toyota At Daytona International Speedway
Chase Briscoe, a new addition to Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), achieved a significant milestone by securing Toyota's first pole position for the Daytona 500. On Wednesday evening, Briscoe drove the JGR No. 19 Bass Pro Shops Camry to the fastest time in both qualifying rounds at Daytona International Speedway. His impressive lap time of 49.249 seconds in the second round earned him the top starting spot for the 'Great American Race.'
Briscoe expressed his excitement, stating, "It’s a great way to start our season. What an unbelievable way to start off the year. It’s unbelievable to start off with Toyota and be able to deliver them the first of anything when they’ve already accomplished so much, it’s pretty cool. To think that I’m going to start on the pole of the ‘Great American Race’ with honestly the ultimate great American brand in Bass Pro Shops is unbelievable. I just can’t thank Coach Gibbs (Joe Gibbs, founder and owner, Joe Gibbs Racing) enough and the entire Joe Gibbs Racing organization."
In Thursday night's Duels at Daytona, 11 drivers will compete using Toyota Camry XSE cars. This marks a record number of TRD, U.S.A. engines in a single Daytona 500 event. The results from these duels will determine the rest of Sunday's race lineup.
Briscoe highlighted the team's offseason focus on improving superspeedway qualifying performance. He mentioned that this was an area where they struggled last year. "The whole offseason everybody kept telling me the focus was trying to qualify better at superspeedways," he said.
Briscoe expressed his gratitude for starting on pole position in such a prestigious race. He acknowledged Joe Gibbs Racing and their partners for providing this opportunity. "That’s something they really struggled at last year and for our No. 19 group to start the year and to sit on the pole in the biggest race of the year is pretty special," he added.
Toyota has been part of North America's cultural landscape for nearly seven decades. The company is committed to sustainable mobility through its Toyota and Lexus brands, supported by over 1,800 dealerships across North America.
