Caterham Launches Seven 310 Encore Limited Edition To Celebrate Ford Sigma Engine Legacy

Caterham has unveiled the Seven 310 Encore, marking the end of the Ford Sigma engine era. This limited-edition model will see only 25 units produced for customers in the UK, US, and UAE. The price starts at £39,995. Since 1973, Ford's 1.6-litre engines have been integral to Caterham's vehicles, with the Sigma introduced in 2007 becoming a favourite among enthusiasts.

The Seven 310 Encore is equipped with the most powerful version of the 1.6-litre Sigma engine, delivering 152bhp at 7,000rpm. This results in an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 281bhp per tonne. The car can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 127mph. Enhancements inspired by the Caterham 310R Championship include a lightened flywheel and sports suspension pack.

Bob Laishley, CEO of Caterham Cars, stated: "For over 50 years the Caterham Seven has been powered to success by various versions of Ford’s four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. From the simplicity of the original 1.6-litre Crossflow through to the sophisticated Sigma, these units have offered an unrivalled blend of exhilarating performance and affordable running costs."

The exterior of the Encore boasts six vibrant colour schemes inspired by famous pop and rock songs such as Blue Monday and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. It features a unique paint finish with distinctive body stripes. Additional upgrades include a CUP grille, carbon fibre front wings, and a black pack finish for various components like the windscreen surround.

The interior is equally impressive with black leather seats featuring dark grey stitching and an exclusive Encore logo. A carbon fibre dashboard houses bespoke edition dials while motorsport-inspired elements include a gearshift light and removable MOMO steering wheel. Each vehicle is finished with a numbered plaque between the seats.

Legacy and Motorsport Heritage

The Sigma engine has been central to numerous Caterham race series for nearly two decades, showcasing its motorsport pedigree. The Seven 310 Encore serves as a tribute to this enduring partnership with Ford. "As a result," Laishley added, "the Seven 310 Encore really is a proper tribute to this long-lasting and unique association."

Caterham's commitment to delivering personalised experiences continues today from its headquarters in Dartford, Kent. The company offers a range of options for buyers to tailor their cars for both road and track use.

Caterham's Global Presence

Caterham operates over 30 official retailers across key global markets as of 2023. Its UK lineup includes models like the Seven Academy Car and Super Seven series while European offerings feature models like the Seven 485 Final Edition.

In addition to producing unique cars exclusively in the UK since acquiring rights from Lotus founder Colin Chapman in 1973, Caterham also runs successful motorsport divisions with racing series in multiple countries including France and Portugal.

The Seven 310 Encore stands as a testament to Caterham's rich history with Ford engines while offering enthusiasts an exciting driving experience on both road and track.
