BYD has introduced the Sealion 7 electric SUV to the Indian market, marking its fourth offering in the country. The vehicle is priced between Rs 48.9 lakh for the base Premium variant and Rs 54.9 lakh for the top-tier Performance trim. The SUV was first showcased at Auto Expo 2025, with bookings opening immediately after. Deliveries for the initial batch of 70 units are set to begin on March 7.

BYD Sealion 7: Design

The Sealion 7's design closely mirrors that of the Seal sedan, featuring a crossover-like silhouette accentuated by a sloping roofline. It incorporates BYD's Ocean-X design language, evident in its X-shaped elements on the front bumper, headlights, and tail-lamps. The Premium variant comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, while the Performance trim boasts larger 20-inch wheels.

BYD Sealion 7: Features

Inside, the Sealion 7 shares similarities with the Seal sedan's dashboard and steering wheel layout. A prominent feature is its 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system that handles most functions and controls. Other amenities include ventilated front seats, connected car technology, an electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory function, and a panoramic glass roof with a sunshade.

BYD Sealion 7: Powertrain and Performance

The Sealion 7 is equipped with an 82.56kWh LFP low-voltage battery pack across both variants, but their performance differs significantly. The Premium variant delivers 313hp and 380Nm to its rear wheels, achieving a WLTP-claimed range of 482km and accelerating from 0-100kph in 6.7 seconds.

The Performance variant targets those seeking more power with its output of 530hp and 690Nm, enabling it to reach 100kph from standstill in just 4.5 seconds. This version includes all-wheel drive but has a slightly reduced WLTP-claimed range of 456km.

BYD Sealion 7: Safety and Practicality

Safety features in the Sealion 7 include eleven airbags, a comprehensive ADAS suite with blind spot detection, forward collision warning, intelligent cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and more. The SUV also offers practical storage solutions with a boot capacity of up to 1,789 litres when rear seats are folded down and an additional frunk space of 58 litres.

BYD Sealion 7: Colour Options & Competition

The Sealion 7 is available in four distinct colours: Atlantis Grey, Aurora White, Cosmos Black, and Shark Grey. These options provide potential buyers with a variety of choices to suit their preferences.

The closest competitor to BYD's new offering is the Volvo C40 Recharge based on body style and pricing. Additionally, when considering price alone, models like the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 also emerge as potential rivals for the Sealion 7.
