Bring A Trailer Surpasses $1.5 Billion In Auction Sales For 2024, Highlighting Market Trends
Bring a Trailer (BaT), a digital auction platform, marked a significant year in 2024 with $1.5 billion in sales. This achievement represents the third consecutive year surpassing $1 billion. The platform hosted nearly 45,000 auctions, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, and memorabilia. Randy Nonnenberg, co-founder and president of BaT, noted the company's growth while maintaining its mission of transparent auctions and community engagement.
In 2024, BaT averaged over 800 auction listings weekly, sometimes exceeding 1,000. The platform's user base expanded by 219,000 new registered users and bidders, reaching a total of 1.36 million. Enhanced staffing and improved systems have expedited the auction process significantly. "In 2021 and 2022, it could take over a month to get your car on BaT," said Nonnenberg. "Now, a well-prepared seller can have their car online in just a few days in many cases."
The trend towards recent classics continued as millennials and Gen Z buyers entered the market. Cars from the 2000s dominated listings for the second year running. The most listed model years were 2006, 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2005. Nonnenberg explained that these vehicles represent the end of the analog era and offer a tactile driving experience.
BaT's international appeal grew with plans to expand its European presence through partnerships with U.S. allies and new European partners. This initiative aims to enhance convenience and transparency for international car enthusiasts. BaT is actively seeking Local Partners in Europe and the UK to support this growth in 2025.
The most popular auctions on BaT in 2024 reflected diverse interests within the collector community. These auctions were ranked based on views, comments, and bids. Highlights included an Ex–Michael Jordan BMW 850i from 1991 and a modified Porsche from Stuttgart among others.
Hypercars performed exceptionally well on BaT in 2024. Bugatti's Chiron claimed the top two sales spots with a Chiron Pur Sport selling for $4,100,000—the second-highest sale ever on BaT. A Lamborghini Countach from 2022 secured third place at $2,500,000.
Motorcycle Market Performance
The motorcycle market also saw strong results with three models surpassing six figures. The top seller was a 1930 Indian Four at $205,000—setting an all-time record for motorcycles on BaT. Other notable sales included an MV Agusta from 1975 and another Indian Four from 1932.
Project vehicles gained traction with over 600 listings in various categories such as Lamborghinis and even unique items like an ex-Swedish military light tank or steam locomotive projects.
