BMW Manufacturing Celebrates Historic Milestone Of Seven Million Vehicles Assembled In Spartanburg
This month, BMW Manufacturing reached a significant milestone as the seven millionth BMW was produced at their Spartanburg, SC plant. To mark this occasion, a unique BMW ALPINA XB7 was crafted. This vehicle features an ALPINA Green Metallic finish and is equipped with a 4.4-liter BMW ALPINA Bi-Turbo V8 engine, delivering 631 horsepower. Due to its importance, this car will remain at the factory as part of the BMW historic collection.
Associates completed the assembly of this milestone vehicle in March. Following this, the ALPINA team at Plant Spartanburg made special modifications over the next week. These included custom ALPINA front and rear aprons, a rear spoiler, floormats with the ALPINA emblem, and an ALPINA commemorative badge.

Dr. Robert Engelhorn, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing, stated: "This beautiful BMW ALPINA XB7 is a testament to the great products we have, the quality of our supplier network, and the unwavering commitment and dedication of our valued associates." He highlighted BMW's long-standing investment in South Carolina and expressed excitement about future plans for electric vehicle assembly at this plant.
The Spartanburg facility assembled nearly 400,000 vehicles in 2024 alone. Of these, around 225,000 were exported to 120 countries worldwide. The plant has been instrumental in meeting global demand for BMW Sports Activity Vehicles and Coupes.
The BMW Group is investing over $1.7 billion in its U.S. operations. This includes $1 billion to prepare Plant Spartanburg for electric vehicle production and $700 million for a new high-voltage battery assembly plant in Woodruff, SC. By 2030, Plant Spartanburg will produce at least six fully electric vehicles alongside internal combustion engine and plug-in hybrid models.
Since its inception in 1992, BMW has invested more than $14.8 billion in South Carolina operations. The Spartanburg plant is now the largest BMW Group facility globally, assembling over 1,500 vehicles daily with an annual capacity of up to 450,000 units.
