BMW M2 CS Sets New Record Of 7:25.5 On The Nürburgring-Nordschleife For Compact Cars
The BMW M2 CS has set a new record on the Nordschleife racetrack, completing the 12.9-mile circuit in 7:25.5 minutes. This achievement marks a significant milestone for compact high-performance sports cars. The feat was accomplished on April 11, 2025, by BMW M development engineer Jörg Weidinger, surpassing the previous best time for compact cars by eight seconds.
The Nordschleife, often called the 'Green Hell,' is one of the world's most challenging racetracks. It spans 12.9 miles with over 70 turns, demanding exceptional performance from both drivers and vehicles. Lap times here are considered a benchmark for assessing a car's sporting capabilities and handling dynamics.
Franciscus van Meel, Managing Director of BMW M GmbH, expressed pride in the M2 CS's achievement, stating, "The BMW M2 CS has achieved a significant milestone with its lap time of 7:25.5 on the Nordschleife, showcasing the potential for combining performance, technology, and exceptional driving dynamics into a single vehicle." The previous record for a BMW M2 model was also set by Weidinger in April 2023 with a time of 7:38.7 minutes. The new record not only beats this by 13 seconds but also breaks the class record of 7:30 minutes for compact cars. This demonstrates BMW M GmbH's innovative engineering prowess.
The new BMW M2 CS exemplifies BMW M GmbH's dedication to excellence in compact high-performance sports cars. It combines enhanced performance with lightweight construction and advanced technology to deliver an exhilarating driving experience. The car features an inline six-cylinder engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology, producing 523 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque.
To achieve its remarkable agility and performance, the BMW M2 CS incorporates model-specific engine mounts, Adaptive M suspension, and an M compound brake system. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic.
