BMW M Hybrid V8 Achieves Pole Position But Faces Setbacks At Sebring 2025

The 50th anniversary of BMW of North America was marked by both triumphs and challenges at the Sebring race weekend. The 73rd Twelve Hours of Sebring, part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, saw Dries Vanthoor in the #24 BMW M Hybrid V8 secure pole position. However, an unavoidable collision during the race caused setbacks for the team, with the #25 car finishing fifth.

Despite these challenges, the BMW M4 GT3 EVO achieved a double podium in the GTD PRO class. Paul Miller Racing's cars secured second and third places. Additionally, the new BMW M4 GT4 EVO celebrated its first victory in Sebring. Sheldon van der Linde, Marco Wittmann, and Robin Frijns drove the #25 BMW M Hybrid V8 from P10 to finish in fifth place.

The BMW M Team RLL cars sported a special livery to commemorate 50 years since BMW of North America's founding on March 15, 1975. This anniversary coincided with a historic win at Sebring by the BMW 3.0 CSL. Jochen Neerpasch and Brian Redman were present to celebrate this milestone.

In the GTD PRO class, Dan Harper, Max Hesse, and Jesse Krohn narrowly beat their teammates to secure second place for Paul Miller Racing. Meanwhile, Turner Motorsport's #96 BMW M4 GT3 EVO finished sixth in the GTD class. The debut season of the new BMW M4 GT3 EVO continues to impress with its performance.

The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race saw CarBahn Racing w/Peregrine Racing achieve victory with drivers Sean McAlister and Jeff Westphal. Turner Motorsport also reached the podium with Dillon Machavern and Francis Selldorff finishing third. Auto Technic Racing's Austin Krainz and Steven McAleer secured fourth place.

Andreas Roos expressed mixed feelings about the weekend's results. He noted that while qualifying went well with Vanthoor securing pole position, race outcomes were less favourable due to incidents like an unsafe release by a competitor affecting car number 24.

Driver Reactions

Marco Wittmann described it as a weekend of mixed emotions. He highlighted their joy over securing pole position but acknowledged disappointment with finishing fifth despite strong speed during qualifying.

Philipp Eng shared his thoughts on their challenging day after being taken out in the pit lane but remained optimistic about future races given their cars' speed and reliability.

Dan Harper celebrated their team's success at Sebring despite not having a perfect race. He emphasised scoring important points for the Endurance Cup after previous setbacks in Daytona.

Neil Verhagen expressed satisfaction with ending on a high note at Sebring after missing out on similar success at Daytona earlier this season.

The anniversary weekend showcased both achievements and hurdles for BMW M Motorsport as they continue striving for excellence in racing events worldwide.
