Hyundai Tucson Recognised As The Best Family Holiday Car By CarGurus Study
The Hyundai Tucson has been named the top choice for family holidays, according to a study by CarGurus. This research, involving 2,000 parents, highlighted what families seek in a holiday vehicle. Reliability and fuel efficiency were key factors, each cited by 52% of respondents. Boot space was also crucial for 51%. The Tucson emerged as the preferred option due to its practicality and features.
Many families consider their holiday habits when buying cars. Over half of British parents factor in their favourite holiday types when choosing a vehicle. Three-quarters of those surveyed prefer driving during vacations. On average, families travel 384 miles annually for holidays, with some covering over 600 miles just for vacationing.

Petrol-powered vehicles remain popular among families, with 44% preferring them over electric options. Only 6% would choose an electric car for family trips. The survey revealed that families typically spend around £21,000 on a suitable holiday car, with 22% willing to pay between £15,000 and £24,999.
When selecting a family-friendly car, comfort on long journeys is essential. Features like climate control and built-in GPS are important considerations. Rear legroom and interior storage also matter to families. Safety features such as lane departure warnings are valued too.
CarGurus has compiled a guide to the best family holiday cars across various budgets. Besides the Hyundai Tucson, other recommendations include the Skoda Kodiaq for those with higher budgets and the Suzuki S-Cross or Toyota RAV4 for more affordable options.
Hyundai Tucson's Appeal
The Hyundai Tucson stands out due to its spacious boot and good fuel economy—38mpg for petrol models and up to 46mpg for hybrids. It offers a five-year unlimited mileage warranty from new. Used models start at just over £15,000, making it budget-friendly.
Chris Knapman from CarGurus UK stated: "Family holidays often mean long hours on the road, packed boots, and keeping everyone comfortable. With this in mind, the Hyundai Tucson stood out as a clear winner – it’s extremely practical, efficient."
SUVs Lead Family Choices
SUVs are popular among families due to their practicality. A quarter of respondents prefer SUVs for holidays. Large hatchbacks (14%) and mid-size hatchbacks (13%) also have their fans. The study found that three-quarters of respondents are now more likely or equally likely to take driving holidays compared to before.
In addition to SUVs' practicality, Chris Knapman noted: "What is perhaps more unexpected is that you can find used car models from under £10,000 that meet the other items on consumers' wish lists."
Holiday Destinations
This year, many plan staycations within the UK; 61% intend to travel by car within the country. Popular destinations include the Lake District, Cornwall, and Devon. Beach holidays (38%), villa rentals (34%), and staycations (33%) are top choices among families.
The research also showed that long car journeys are enjoyed by many; nearly half of those surveyed like them while only 16% dislike them.
