Bentley Showcases Speed Six Continuation Series And New Continental GTC At Retromobile Classic Event
Bentley Motors is set to unveil the Speed Six Continuation Series, following the successful completion of twelve Bentley 4½ Litre Supercharged ‘Blower’ models. This marks the world's first pre-war continuation series. Each car in this series will be meticulously handcrafted over a ten-month period, using authentic tools and techniques from the era.
The Speed Six, introduced in 1928, was a sportier version of the Bentley 6½ Litre. It featured enhancements like twin SU carburettors and a high-performance camshaft for increased power. A contemporary review in The Morning Post praised it as "one of the most remarkable engineering achievements of the century." Between 1928 and 1930, 182 Speed Six models were produced.
The original Speed Sixes serve as templates for this continuation series: Bentley's own GU409 and 'Old Number 3'. The latter, driven by Sammy Davis and Clive Dunfee in the 1930 Le Mans race, provided invaluable data on dimensions and materials. This model's legacy includes two Le Mans victories in 1929 and 1930, solidifying its place in racing history.
Bentley Motors is also introducing the fourth generation Continental GTC Speed in Jetstream. This model continues a 21-year tradition of blending supercar performance with luxury and usability. The new Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain combines a 4.0-litre V8 engine with an electric motor, producing a total of 782 PS.
The Continental GTC Speed boasts impressive performance for an open-air Grand Tourer. Its seven-bow fabric roof system can be deployed in just 19 seconds at speeds up to 48 km/h. The vehicle offers an electric range of 81 km and CO2 emissions of only 29 g/km on the WLTP drive cycle.
This new hybrid powertrain features a completely new 400-volt electrical architecture. It represents one of the most advanced suites of powertrain technology available from any luxury automotive brand today.
Bentley's presence at Retromobile will include representatives such as Matthew Doughty, Customer and Sales Manager at Mulliner; Dev Sibal, Senior Product and Marketing Manager at Mulliner; and Guillaume Breard, General Manager at Bentley Paris-Seine.
