Bentley Motors Launches Unique Koa Veneer Surfboard In Collaboration With Marnie Rays And Otter Surfboards

Bentley Motors has unveiled a unique surfboard crafted from Koa veneer, in collaboration with Marnie Rays and Otter Surfboards. This project highlights the fusion of craftsmanship and adventure. The surfboard, made from wood sourced at Bentley's Crewe workshop, will be revealed at Marnie Rays' VIP retreat in Cornwall. It will later be auctioned to support Surfability UK, a charity offering adaptive surfing experiences.

The Koa veneer used for the surfboard was chosen by Lindsey Holland of Marnie Rays and James Otter of Otter Surfboards during their visit to Bentley's headquarters. This wood is typically reserved for Bentley's luxury car interiors. The veneer selection pays tribute to traditional Hawaiian surfboard crafting methods. Bentley has long prioritised sustainably-sourced wood for its vehicles, maintaining this commitment for over a century.

James Otter meticulously shaped the surfboard by hand in his Cornwall workshop. The process involved techniques not used since the end of Mulsanne production. The final product features etched logos of all three collaborators, symbolising their joint effort. A short film documents this journey from Bentley’s Crewe headquarters to the Cornish coast, capturing the essence of adventure that inspired the project.

Lindsey Holland expressed her excitement about partnering with Bentley on this venture. She stated, "I’m truly honoured that Marnie Rays is partnering with Bentley on this incredible project." She emphasised how this collaboration blends adventure with craftsmanship, culminating in oceanic freedom. The film accompanying the launch aims to inspire appreciation for both the journey and destination.

The surfboard will be gifted to Surfability UK after its debut at Marnie Rays' retreat. This organisation provides adaptive surfing lessons for individuals with disabilities or learning differences. By auctioning the board, they aim to raise funds to make surfing accessible to everyone. Guests at the retreat will have an exclusive opportunity to experience this unique creation firsthand.

Greg Drury from Bentley Motors highlighted the importance of craftsmanship in their work. He said, "At Bentley, craftsmanship is at the heart of everything we do." Collaborating with Marnie Rays and Otter Surfboards allowed them to showcase this dedication while embracing adventure through this bespoke surfboard project.
