Bentley Bentayga Speed Achieves Record Time At Goodwood Hillclimb Despite Wet Conditions
The Bentayga Speed has set a new record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, completing the hill run in 55.8 seconds despite wet conditions. This achievement makes it the fastest internal combustion engine (ICE) SUV to ever tackle the Goodwood hill, surpassing previous records held by other ICE production SUVs.
During its record-setting run, the Bentayga Speed reached a peak speed of 130 mph before braking for Molecomb. The vehicle's twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine delivers 650 PS and 850 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 193 mph (310 km/h).
The Bentayga Speed features significant advancements in dynamic capability, including an enhanced SPORT chassis mode and a new ESC Dynamic setting. These enhancements allow drivers to choose between improved road-holding or the ability to slide the car on power, with an emphasis on road-holding during the record run.
Andy Marson, a Bentley specialist and experienced Goodwood driver, was behind the wheel during this remarkable performance. Despite wet conditions in the second half of the course due to pre-run rainfall, Marson managed to set a new benchmark time for an SUV.
The Bentayga Speed's engine is not only more powerful than its predecessors but also more characterful. It comes standard with a Sports exhaust system that delivers a rich engine note complementing its high-powered V8 character. An optional Titanium Akrapovic Exhaust further enhances this sound with quad tailpipes.
Three driving modes are available: COMFORT, BENTLEY, and SPORT. While COMFORT and BENTLEY modes remain unchanged from other Bentayga models, SPORT mode is significantly enhanced for increased steering response and roadholding.
Advanced Features
The Bentayga Speed now includes all-wheel steering for improved agility and stability at various speeds. At low and medium speeds, rear wheels steer opposite to front wheels for quicker direction changes; at high speeds they steer in tandem with front wheels enhancing stability.
Optional carbon ceramic brakes offer ultimate braking capability while ESC Dynamic software allows exhilarating drift angles or power-on oversteer when appropriate. Torque vectoring by brake sharpens turn-in capabilities while Launch Control debuts as another first for any Bentayga model.
Distinctive Design Elements
The exterior design of the Bentayga Speed includes unique features such as dark tint brightware, chrome Speed badges on front doors' leading edge along with distinctive headlamps featuring dark tint internals & bezels plus grey tail lamps also having dark tint bezels.
A choice between dark tint or silver (no cost option) finishes is available for its 22" Speed wheels while optional carbon ceramic brakes come paired with exclusive 23" Speed wheels offered in grey satin black or black & bright machined finishes alongside painted calipers available across seven striking colours.
This latest iteration redefines expectations around handling acceleration steering response within luxury SUVs cementing itself firmly atop Bentley's performance flagship lineup through these comprehensive enhancements across various aspects including design dynamics & technology integration alike ensuring unparalleled driving experiences await those fortunate enough behind its wheel!
