Tata Punch Flex Fuel Unveiled At Auto Expo 2025 - Tata's Ethanol Flex
At the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, Tata Motors has taken the covers off the Punch Flex Fuel concept. Like the Hyundai Creta Flex Fuel showcased at Auto Expo 2025, the new Punch is not limited to using up to 85% (E85) ethanol mix but can operate on 100% ethanol (E100).
The Tata Punch Flex Fuel uses the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine that its petrol-drinking siblings use. However, the engine and the rest of the powertrain have been modified to help it run on the even more corrosive ethanol.

Power and torque figures remain unchanged at 86 bhp and 115 Nm torque with the engine of a production-spec Punch Flex Fuel expected to use the same 5-speed manual and AMT options
The introduction of the Punch Flex Fuel vehicle by Tata Motors is not just a technological advancement but also a strategic move by the carmaker in the automotive industry. This flex-fuel version of the Punch aligns with the government's push for using ethanol as an alternative fuel, which is seen as a win-win situation for both parties. The government benefits from increased tax revenues and job creation through the domestic production of ethanol from local resources like grains and sugarcane which in turn boosts the economy thereby enhancing tax collection.

By showcasing flex-fuel vehicles like the Punch Flex Fuel at the Expo, Tata Motors signals its readiness to align with government initiatives on fuel distribution, ensuring mutual profitability. This will allow carmakers like Tata Motors to maintain positive relationships with the government which can lead to favourable regulations and policies that boost their sales.
The backdrop to Tata Motors' initiative is the broader context of the automotive industry's shift towards more sustainable and locally sourced fuel options. The production of ethanol from local materials not only supports domestic agriculture but also reduces reliance on imported fuels, contributing to energy security. This move by Tata Motors and the government's support for ethanol reflect a collective effort towards achieving environmental sustainability and economic resilience.

Tata Motors' development of the Punch Flex Fuel vehicle highlights a significant shift towards alternative fuel technologies. Coupled with strategic government-industry partnerships, the changes point towards a future where sustainable and domestically produced fuels play a pivotal role in the Indian automotive sector.
