BYD Yangwang U8 Showcased At Auto Expo 2025 - Jesus On 4 Wheels
Chinese carmaker BYD showcased the U8 plug-in hybrid SUV from its high-end Yangwang division at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo today. The massive BYD Yangwang U8 shpown at Auto Expo is best known for its ability to float on water for 30 minutes.
The U8 weighs around 3,500kg which is thanks to a hybrid powertrai that consists of a 49.1kWh battery pack that feeds four individual motors which is further augmented by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which allows of a formidable output of 1,180 horsepower and 1,280Nm torque.
This immense power and torque allows the U8 to rocket from standstill to 100kph in a mere 3.2 seconds. The Yangawang SUV also features fast-charging technology that allows for a quick battery boost from 30% to 80% in just 18 minutes, ensuring a hybrid range of 1,000km, with 180km achievable on electric power alone, as per the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle.
Expansive Exterior and Elegant Interior Highlights
The exterior dimensions of the Yangwang U8 are impressive, spanning 5,319mm in length, 2,050mm in width, and standing 1,930mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,050mm. Featuring a commanding, boxy silhouette, the U8's design incorporates pixel-like patterns across its grille, blending into the headlights, while the sides flaunt gloss black cladding and sizable, darkened wheels. Flush door handles aid in streamlining the vehicle's profile, and the rear displays a similar pixel pattern on the taillights, accentuated by a spare wheel mounted at the back.
The interior of the Yangwang U8 exudes luxury. It is equipped with a trio of screens: a 12.8-inch central touchscreen, and 23.6-inch displays for the drivera and the front passenger. The U8 gets a 22-speaker sound system, a moonroof, a 50W wireless charging pad, and for added convenience, electric side steps that deploy automatically.
The cabin is adorned with brown upholstery, featuring seats that offer ventilation, massage functions, and power adjustments.
Unmatched Safety Features and Potential Market Impact
On the safety front, the U8 is outfitted with a Level 2 Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems suite, supported by an array of 38 sensors, including three LiDARs, 13 cameras, and 12 ultrasonic radars. This comprehensive array of safety features positions the U8 at the forefront of its category.
