Aurus Senat: The Armoured Limo Modi and Putin Rode In - Everything You Need To Know
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin travelled together after the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin, China. The shared ride came after the summit proceedings and before their scheduled bilateral meeting at the delegation hotel and saw them travel in the Russian Aurus Senat armoured limousine.
The Aurus Senat is Russia's official state limousine, created by Aurus Motors with support from the state research institute NAMI under the Kortezh programme. It replaced the Mercedes-Benz S 600 Guard Pullman as the Russian presidential vehicle and debuted during Putin's 2018 inauguration ceremony.

The long-wheelbase Senat L700 measures 6.6 metres in length, over two metres in width, and nearly 1.7 metres in height. The Senat's upright grille, slim LED headlamps, and formal silhouette recall the ZIL limousines from the Soviet era while presenting the proportions and road presence of a modern flagship limousine.
Powering the Senat is a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 developed by NAMI and Porsche that comes paired with a 46 kW electric motor. The hybrid powerplant produces about 598 horsepower and 880 Nm of peak torque, which is sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The armoured Senat L700 tips the scales at nearly seven tonnes. Despite that ginormous mass, the Senat can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in roughly nine seconds and reach a limited top speed of 160 km/h. Ballistic shielding on Senat L700 meets VR10 standards and is capable of resisting armour-piercing rounds and grenade blasts.
Reinforced roof sections, an armoured underbody, and multi-layer bulletproof glazing nearly six centimetres thick form a protective shell around the passenger compartment of the Aurus Senat while preserving outward visibility.

Additional defence systems on the Senat L700 include run-flat tyres, an explosion-resistant fuel tank, integrated fire suppression, and an emergency oxygen supply. Onboard electronics provide encrypted communications, convoy traffic management support, and redundant power systems to keep essential functions active in critical scenarios.
The interior is configured as a rolling executive suite. Rear passengers benefit from power-adjustable ventilated seats with massage functions, folding tables, lambswool carpets, and a refrigerated compartment. A 32-inch display, premium sound system, and wireless charging pads transform the space into a mobile office.

Civilian production of the Aurus Senat began in 2021 at the Yelabuga facility. Output is capped at around 120 units annually. Prices exceed 20 million rubles, or roughly ₹2.5 crore, with sedan, armoured limousine, and convertible options available for private buyers.
