Audi Q5 E-Hybrid Models Launch In The UK With Impressive Electric Range And Performance
Audi is expanding its Q5 lineup with new plug-in hybrid models. The Q5 SUV e-hybrid quattro and Q5 Sportback e-hybrid quattro offer a system power of 299PS (220 kW). These vehicles can travel up to 62 miles on electric power alone. The high-voltage battery has been upgraded, providing 45% more capacity than before, ensuring both efficiency and performance.
The new Audi Q5 plug-in hybrids are equipped with a 2.0 TFSI engine and an electric motor, delivering a total system output of 299PS (220 kW). This setup allows the vehicles to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.2 seconds, reaching a top speed of 155 mph. The electrified dual-clutch transmission paired with the quattro ultra drive offers a sporty yet comfortable driving experience.
The high-voltage battery in the Q5 e-hybrid models has been significantly improved. It now boasts a capacity of 25.9 kWh (net 20.7 kWh), which is about 45% more than its predecessor. This enhancement allows for greater energy density and improved regenerative braking performance, contributing to overall efficiency.
Charging the battery is more convenient with a maximum AC charging power of 11 kW. When completely depleted, it takes just 2.5 hours to fully charge the battery. A charging cable for home and road use is included as standard, and Audi's charging service provides access to numerous AC charging points across Europe.
The Q5 PHEV models offer two driving modes: "EV" and "hybrid." In EV mode, the vehicles run solely on electric power until the battery is depleted. Hybrid mode optimises efficiency by maintaining a specific charge level for later use, such as city driving. Drivers can also set their desired charge level using a digital slider.
Regenerative braking has been enhanced in these models, allowing them to recover up to 88 kW of power during deceleration. The integrated brake control system ensures optimal energy recovery while maintaining a natural braking feel for drivers.
Advanced Features and Comfort
The Q5 e-hybrid models come with upgraded standard equipment, including S sports suspension, LED headlights, and a sophisticated infotainment system with smartphone integration. The rear seat bench is fully adjustable for increased comfort or boot space as needed.
The SUV offers a boot volume of 438 litres, while the Sportback provides 433 litres of storage space. With seats folded down, these volumes increase significantly, making them practical choices for everyday use.
Pricing and Availability
The Audi Q5 SUV e-hybrid quattro starts at £56,740 in the UK, while the Sportback version begins at £59,240. Both models will be available for order starting July 2025, with initial deliveries expected in September.
Audi's commitment to innovation continues as it plans to introduce more battery electric vehicles across its model range by 2027. This initiative aligns with its goal to enhance sustainability while offering cutting-edge technology in its vehicles.
