Audi Introduces Unified Model Naming System For Enhanced Customer Clarity Worldwide
Audi is revamping its model naming system to provide a consistent and clear orientation for customers worldwide. This new alphanumeric format will indicate the size and positioning of each model, regardless of whether it uses an electric or combustion engine. Marco Schubert, Audi's board member for sales and marketing, stated, "We are providing intuitive orientation for all customers worldwide."
The updated naming convention will use letters and numbers to classify models. The letters 'A' and 'Q' will continue to differentiate between low-floor and high-floor vehicles. Numbers from one to eight will be used to indicate size and position, independent of the powertrain type. This change eliminates the previous distinction based on drivetrain technology.

Models with different powertrains can now share similar names. For instance, both electric and combustion-engine vehicles can have the same letter-number combination. Differentiation within the portfolio will rely on body style descriptors like Avant, Sedan, or Sportback, along with established powertrain codes such as e-tron or TFSI.
The first vehicle to adopt this new naming system will be the Audi A6 with a combustion engine. This model represents Audi's legacy in the full-size segment and is set for a global reveal on March 4. The A6 Avant TFSI will be distinct from its all-electric counterpart, the A6 Avant e-tron, through its powertrain code.
No changes will be made to the names of models already available in the market. This decision was influenced by extensive discussions and feedback from customers and international dealers. Schubert emphasized that this approach aligns with customer preferences.
