Aston Martin Valkyrie Hypercar Set For South American Debut At Interlagos In FIA World Endurance Championship

The Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar is set to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Interlagos, Brazil. This marks its first race on South American soil. The team aims for a top ten finish after earning points at Le Mans. The Valkyrie is the only hypercar racing in both the WEC and IMSA series.

Following a successful debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where both Valkyries completed the race without issues, Aston Martin THOR Team seeks to maintain momentum. They finished 12th and 14th, securing their first Manufacturer’s World Championship points in the Hypercar Class.

The Valkyrie hypercar has shown reliability, completing 11 out of 12 races globally. It debuted in Qatar and has consistently scored points in IMSA races. The car features a carbon fibre chassis and a modified V12 engine, adhering to hypercar regulations with a power limit of 680bhp.

Tom Gamble and Harry Tincknell will drive the #007 Valkyrie, while Alex Riberas and Marco Sørensen will handle the #009 car. Both teams are eager to leverage their experience from Le Mans to perform well in Brazil.

Tom Gamble expressed excitement about racing in Brazil for the first time. He appreciates the team's hard work and looks forward to seeing their efforts pay off this weekend. Harry Tincknell hopes their progress at Le Mans will help them challenge for points at Interlagos.

Alex Riberas is thrilled to return to one of his favourite tracks, São Paulo, believing that the team’s momentum from Le Mans will continue. Marco Sørensen is optimistic about exploiting the newly resurfaced track for an advantage.

Aston Martin's Broader Racing Strategy

Aston Martin's Vantage GT3 also returns to action in North and South America this weekend. The Heart of Racing team aims for its first FIA WEC victory at Interlagos, while Racing Spirit of Léman introduces Anthony McIntosh to its line-up for this race.

The Vantage GT3 has achieved multiple class victories recently, including wins at Watkins Glen and Spa. In IMSA, Casper Stevenson partners with Roman De Angelis for Mosport as they chase championship points.

Team Leadership Perspectives

Ian James, Team Principal of Aston Martin THOR Team, noted significant progress at Le Mans. He believes they can build on this success in Brazil. Adam Carter highlighted that the first half of the WEC season helped establish a performance baseline for Valkyrie.

Carter also emphasised Vantage GT3's strength across various championships. He remains optimistic about achieving podium finishes in São Paulo with both partner teams aiming high.

The upcoming races present opportunities for Aston Martin to further solidify its position in endurance racing. With strong performances expected from both Valkyrie and Vantage GT3 entries, fans anticipate exciting results from these events.
