Aston Martin Valkyrie Aims For Strong Finish In IMSA At Road America

The Aston Martin Valkyrie enters the final phase of its IMSA season at Road America. With five top-10 finishes, drivers Ross Gunn and Roman De Angelis seek further success in this prestigious sportscar championship.

The Aston Martin Valkyrie is entering the final stages of its debut season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. This weekend, it competes at the Motul Sportscar Grand Prix of Road America. The Valkyrie has already achieved five top-10 finishes, including a ninth-place result at its debut in March's Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Ross Gunn and Roman De Angelis are aiming for further success at Road America. Gunn previously won the GTD Pro class here in 2023 with an Aston Martin Vantage GT3. De Angelis returns to his regular seat after partnering with Casper Stevenson last month.

The Valkyrie stands out as the only hypercar competing in both IMSA and the FIA World Endurance Championship this season. Developed from a road-legal hypercar, it features a race-optimised carbon fibre chassis and a modified 6.5-litre V12 engine. This engine produces over 1000bhp but adheres to a 500kw (680bhp) power limit under hypercar regulations.

Aston Martin's THOR Team has seen consistent performance improvements throughout the season. At Watkins Glen, they reached fifth place before a late caution affected their position. Despite this, they secured their fifth consecutive points finish.

Ian James, Team Principal of Aston Martin THOR Team, noted that Valkyrie is making steady progress with each race in both IMSA and FIA World Endurance Championship events. "At Watkins Glen, we maximized the performance of the car," he said. "We’ve had a successful test at Road America and are eager to see how our knowledge translates into race conditions."

Adam Carter, Head of Endurance Motorsport at Aston Martin, highlighted the team's achievements so far. "With more than half the IMSA season complete and top 10 finishes in every race, it’s clear how much progress Valkyrie and the Aston Martin THOR Team have made so far in 2025," he stated.

Vantage's Pursuit of Victory

The Heart of Racing Team continues its pursuit for GTD Teams’ and Manufacturers’ titles with the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 at Road America. Tom Gamble returns to partner with Casper Stevenson after missing a previous race due to commitments with Valkyrie in WEC.

The Vantage GT3 shares its mechanical architecture with Aston Martin's luxury road car and is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine. The team has seen success at Road America before, including a pole position and victory in 2023.

The Motul Sportscar Grand Prix of Road America will start on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025, at 1410 local time (+5 Hours BST). It will be broadcast live globally on IMSA TV and other selected broadcasters.
