Aston Martin Celebrates 70 Years Of Heritage In Newport Pagnell's Automotive Legacy
Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell, UK, celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2025. This site has been integral to the brand's history, serving as a hub for manufacturing and service. The location is renowned for producing iconic models of the 20th century. Aston Martin's presence here marks a significant milestone in its legacy.
In the mid-1950s, Aston Martin needed to expand production significantly. The Feltham site and other facilities were too small for this growth. Sir David Brown, then-owner, chose Newport Pagnell for its strategic location and potential for expansion. This decision was pivotal for the brand's future success.
Steve Waddingham, Aston Martin Historian, noted that moving production from Feltham to Newport Pagnell was surprising at the time. The area was rural, lacking major infrastructure like the M1 motorway. However, Sir David's vision was clear: consolidate operations to meet growing demand.
The Tickford Ltd site in Newport Pagnell offered ample space and skilled craftsmanship. It became the new home for Aston Martin Lagonda car production in 1955. This move initiated a golden era of sports car manufacturing at this historic location.
From this site emerged legendary models like the DB5, DB6, and V8s. These cars were meticulously crafted by hand in Buckinghamshire. The factory's output included some of the most sought-after sports cars globally, cementing Aston Martin's reputation.
Across Tickford Street from the main factory, a customer service operation was established. Known today as Aston Martin Works, it continues to offer comprehensive services for both modern and heritage vehicles.
Aston Martin Works Today
Aston Martin Works remains a vital part of Newport Pagnell's identity. It provides sales of new and pre-owned models alongside expert servicing and restoration. The facility also offers paint and body repairs through its dedicated shops.
The team includes around 100 staff members, with apprentices learning trades in various departments. This commitment to craftsmanship reflects the brand's dedication to excellence over its 112-year history.
Looking Forward
Paul Spires, President of Aston Martin Works, emphasises the site's ongoing significance: "For 70 years now Aston Martin has had a proud association with this site...we remain an important part of the community." The rich heritage continues to make Aston Martin Works an exclusive part of the marque today.
Aston Martin Works is not only a heritage service centre but also a dealership where enthusiasts can view and purchase cars from every era. In recent years, limited edition models like the DB4 GT Continuation have been produced here.
This enduring connection between Aston Martin and Newport Pagnell highlights a unique relationship rarely seen in the automotive industry. As they celebrate this milestone anniversary, they look forward to continuing their legacy at this historic site.
