Ashok Leyland Launches New Bus Manufacturing Facility In Vijayawada: Boosts Local Employment
Ashok Leyland, a prominent vehicle manufacturer in India, has inaugurated a new production facility in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. This plant spans 75 acres and is primarily dedicated to bus manufacturing. The facility will produce buses powered by both electric and internal combustion engines. This expansion is part of Ashok Leyland's broader strategy to enhance its production capabilities across various vehicle categories.
The new plant is expected to significantly boost employment in the region, providing thousands of jobs. This development aims to reduce the need for locals to seek employment abroad or in other cities. The opening ceremony was attended by Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh and other dignitaries, highlighting the importance of this initiative for the local economy.
In addition to manufacturing, the facility will serve as an Advanced Service Training Center. It aims to offer training in key areas, enhancing the skills of local workers. The plant incorporates sustainable practices, such as using solar power for electricity and LED lighting throughout the premises. Battery-operated vehicles will be used within the plant to further reduce environmental impact.
Ashok Leyland plans to produce 4,800 buses annually at this new site, ensuring world-class quality standards. The company also handed over the key of a Switch Electric Double Decker bus to the Andhra Pradesh government during the inauguration. Minister Nara Lokesh received this symbolic gesture, marking a step towards modernising public transport in the state.
The establishment of this plant is expected to stimulate growth among local suppliers and create numerous job opportunities. By focusing on both production and training, Ashok Leyland aims to foster a skilled workforce that can support its operations and contribute to regional development.
