AO Racing And Wright Motorsports To Showcase Porsche 911 GT3 R At Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is set to feature the Porsche 911 GT3 R at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. This event marks the only international race for the series this season, with a focus on the GTD Pro and GTD classes. The GTP class will not participate, allowing the spotlight to shine on these categories alongside the LMP2 class.

AO Racing's Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler are currently second in the GTD Pro standings. They will drive the No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 R. Meanwhile, Adam Adelson will compete in both the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and VP Racing Sportscar Challenge races, driving for Wright Motorsports.

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park has a rich history with Porsche, dating back to its first sports car race win in 1961 by Ludwig Heimrath, Sr. The track has seen numerous victories by Porsche over the years, including four consecutive GT class wins from 2002 to 2005. In total, Porsche boasts 18 victories at this venue.

The upcoming race will be broadcast live on USA Network and streamed on Peacock in the United States. IMSA Radio will provide live audio coverage, with highlights available post-race on IMSA’s YouTube channel.

Adam Adelson expressed excitement about returning to IMSA after competing in Spa 24. "CTMP is one of those events that always stands out in the IMSA calendar; it's a proper old school track," he said. Adelson is also preparing for a double-header weekend as he competes in two championships.

Wright Motorsports aims to build on their recent performance at Spa, where they finished fourth. Despite challenges at Watkins Glen, Adelson and teammate Eliott Skeer remain competitive in their first full season of IMSA WeatherTech competition.

Race Schedule and Key Participants

The race weekend kicks off with free practice sessions on July 11 and 12, followed by qualifying rounds for GTD and GTD Pro classes. The main event is scheduled for July 13 at 2:05 p.m. ET, lasting two hours and 45 minutes.

The field includes two Porsche entries among 35 cars: AO Racing's No. 77 in GTD Pro and Wright Motorsports' No. 120 in GTD. These entries are part of a competitive lineup featuring ten cars in GTD Pro and thirteen in GTD.

Porsche Cars North America continues to support motorsport activities through its headquarters in Atlanta and Los Angeles. These facilities offer driver development tracks and business centers, enhancing Porsche's commitment to performance excellence.

"The GT cars are special to us at Porsche," said Volker Holzmeyer, President of Porsche Motorsports North America. "It's special to get the opportunity to showcase the close, hard racing in the GTD classes at a historic track like Canadian Tire Motorsports Park."
