Ambleside Tops List Of Best Dog Walking Destinations In The UK, Followed By Snowdonia And Brecon Beacons
A recent study by Isuzu UK highlights Ambleside in the Lake District as the top dog walking spot in the UK. Many Brits are willing to travel an average of 69 miles for a perfect walk, with 84% acknowledging that these walks enhance their mental well-being. To support these adventures, Isuzu has introduced dog-friendly D-Max accessories, ensuring safer and more comfortable journeys for both owners and their pets.
Ambleside leads the list of favourite dog walking locations, followed by Snowdonia's dramatic landscapes and Hampshire's New Forest. Richmond Park in London and Hampstead Heath also rank highly. Other notable spots include Brecon Beacons National Park, Sherwood Forest, and Hadrian’s Wall. Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands is praised for its trails and waterfalls, while Sussex's South Downs offers scenic chalk hills.
Walking dogs provides numerous benefits beyond exercise. It offers relaxation (71%), quality time with pets (65%), peace (57%), and a chance to explore local areas (28%). Additionally, it allows interaction with other dog owners (21%) and helps people stay active. On average, Brits walk their dogs for over an hour daily, covering 17 miles weekly.

George Wallis from Isuzu UK notes that many Brits are eager to drive long distances for ideal dog walks. "With 84 percent of people saying dog walks boost their mental health and over half admitting it’s their main form of exercise," he says, "it’s clear the daily walks are vital." The D-Max vehicle is equipped with features like robust dog boxes and safety harnesses to enhance these trips.
Preferred Walking Companions
When choosing walking companions, partners lead at 53%, followed by sons and daughters at 23% each. Best friends account for 13%, while some prefer solo walks with their dogs. Many enjoy letting their dogs explore freely or playing fetch during outings. Running together is popular among 32%, while others appreciate socialising with fellow dog owners.
Isuzu's research encourages exploring new trails instead of repeating the same routes daily. With the right gear and a trusty vehicle like the D-Max, discovering new paths becomes an exciting adventure for both humans and their canine companions.
