Alpine A390: A Sport Fastback Redefining Electric Performance And Driving Pleasure
The Alpine A390, known as the "racing car in a suit," was unveiled at Alpine's Dieppe headquarters. This model features three electric motors that enable the development of Alpine Active Torque Vectoring, prioritising driving experience over sheer performance. The A390 is the second addition to Alpine's Dream Garage, following the A290 and preceding the all-electric A110.
Alpine's engineers focused on creating a vehicle that offers driving pleasure. The A390 embodies the brand's DNA, combining the exhilarating experience of the A110 with added versatility. It features an AWD system powered by three electric motors—one at the front and two at the rear—marking a first for Alpine. This setup enhances dynamism, safety, and agility.
The A390 sports an elegant fastback design with a striking personality. Its dimensions are 4.615m in length, 1.885m in width, and 1.532m in height. The car's coupé proportions are visible from afar, with its helmet visor-shaped rear window and compact glazed surfaces contributing to its appearance. The design includes unique lighting signatures and aerodynamic features.
Inside, the A390 offers a sporty yet comfortable environment for five passengers. The interior is driver-focused, featuring high-definition screens and physical climate controls for convenience. The heated sport steering wheel is wrapped in Nappa Bleu leather and integrates various controls for driving modes and assistance systems.
The A390 is built on Alpine's Ampere electric platform, offering energy services for optimising home charging. It includes Mobilize Power and V2G bidirectional charging options in France. The car is manufactured in France at Alpine's historic Dieppe plant, which has been transformed to accommodate electric vehicle production.
The powertrain consists of three motors: a wound-rotor synchronous motor at the front and two permanent-magnet synchronous motors at the rear. These motors drive the Alpine Active Torque Vectoring system, enhancing agility by managing torque distribution between wheels based on driving conditions.
Driving Experience
Alpine Active Torque Vectoring provides unparalleled dynamism by adjusting torque distribution between wheels to improve handling. This system works alongside other advanced technologies like adaptive cruise control with stop & go functionality and various driver assistance systems (ADAS).
The A390 offers different driving modes: Save, Normal, Sport, Perso, and Track mode. These modes adjust settings for torque vectoring, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), traction control, etc., allowing drivers to tailor their experience according to preferences or road conditions.
Battery and Charging
The A390 debuts a high-performance battery developed by Verkor with a capacity of 89kWh. It offers a range of up to 555km (WLTP cycle) depending on wheel size. DC fast charging can reach up to 190kW while maintaining high power levels over long periods for efficient recharging.
Google Maps GPS navigation includes an EV route planner that considers various factors like charge level or battery temperature when calculating optimal routes or charging stages during trips.
Interior Atmosphere
A visual/audio welcome sequence greets passengers upon entering the vehicle; Devialet audio system creates an immersive sound environment within its cabin space through multiple speakers scattered throughout compartments providing excellent sound quality both music phone calls alike!
