Alex Palou Achieves First Indianapolis 500 Victory In Historic Win For Honda
Alex Palou achieved a significant milestone by winning his first Indianapolis 500, marking his fifth victory of the 2025 season. This win also extended Honda's record to 16 victories in this prestigious race. The triumph was part of a remarkable start for Honda in the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES, with six consecutive wins in the first six races.
Palou's performance has been outstanding, securing victories at St. Petersburg, Thermal, Barber Motorsports Park, and earlier this month on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His worst finish this year was second place at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, where he trailed fellow Honda driver Kyle Kirkwood.
The Spanish driver now leads the championship by 115 points over his nearest rival, with a total of 306 points compared to their 191. Palou started sixth in the Indy 500 and led for just 14 laps to claim his first oval win. Takuma Sato led the most laps at 75 but finished in 11th place.
Marcus Ericsson from Andretti Global finished second, narrowly missing out on repeating his 2022 Indy 500 victory. Felix Rosenqvist secured fifth place for Meyer Shank Racing, while Ericsson's teammate Kyle Kirkwood made an impressive climb from 23rd to finish sixth.
The race results highlighted Honda's strong presence with multiple top finishes:

Kyle Kirkwood praised Honda's comeback after recent setbacks: "Absolutely incredible day for Honda...we finished sixth, which was a big result for us." He noted that they made significant progress during the race.
