Alex Palou And Pato O'Ward Lead Front Row For Java House Grand Prix Of Monterey
The NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship battle will be the highlight at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday. The top two contenders, Alex Palou from Chip Ganassi Racing and Pato O’Ward from Arrow McLaren, will start side by side in the Java House Grand Prix of Monterey. Both drivers have dominated recent races, winning three of the last four events.
Palou secured pole position with a lap time of 1 minute, 8.3413 seconds during Saturday's Firestone Fast Six round. This was nearly three-tenths faster than O'Ward's best lap of 1:08.6280 on the 2.238-mile track. "It felt amazing," Palou stated, praising his team's efforts throughout the weekend.
A victory on Sunday could solidify Palou's third consecutive series title and fourth in five years. He currently leads by 99 points with four races remaining in the season. Winning the pole also adds an extra point to his tally, further strengthening his championship bid.
Colton Herta from Andretti Global and Josef Newgarden from Team Penske will start third and fourth, respectively. These positions set up an exciting race as they aim to challenge Palou and O'Ward for the win.
In Saturday's INDY NXT by Firestone Race 1, Brazilian driver Caio Collet led all 35 laps to claim victory. He narrowly defeated Dennis Hauger of Andretti Global by .2092 seconds, marking one of the closest finishes at this track. Josh Pierson from HMD Motorsports finished third, achieving his first podium in 33 starts.
Collet's win continues a trend where every pole winner at this course has reached victory lane in this series. This consistency highlights the importance of starting position at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
